What are these wires?

Featured Replies

Hello, new boy here. I have been poking around my sister-in-law's Yeti and wondered what this bundle of wires are tucked away behind the grille in the left hand boot trim panel.

It may be a bit of a long shot as the car is Australian spec.

Shoddily fitted tow bar electrics?

I don't think so. The has been owned from new and, unless the dealer had a go before delivery, nobody has attempted to fit towing electrics. I did wonder if they were something to do with tow bar wiring but, if they are, they have been really shoddily fitted by Skoda at the factory... so shoddily, they forgot to put the socket on the outside of the car!

The Yeti in the the UK can be ordered with "Towbar Prep" - which provides for all the linked wiring for installation of a towbar at a later stage. I think I have read somewhere that the Australian build come with it as standard.

I went the whole hog and had the towbar fitted as well as it didn't make economic sense to do it in two bites. If you do get one fitted you will need to get your onboard computer updated in order to link the alarm, the light warnings and stop the rear sensors bleating when you place it in reverse.

Hard-wired NSA tracking device then? ;)

Non genuine rear parking sensors? Can you get a better picture? There seems an to be an ecu of some sort....

You may be on to something there. The sensors in the bumper do look a bit like an afterthought.

I was hoping that they may be something to do with towbar wiring as that is what prompted me poking around. I read another thread on here where a bloke in Aus fitted towbar electrics but, from the pics he posted, it looked like the tow prepared cars just had an additional socket behind that trim panel and not a load of extra wires. I think he still had to fork out another couple of hundred quid before had the electrics up and running.

They are electrical wires, and carry electricity to various parts of the Yeti.  :giggle:

Whatever they are, I don't think you should be able to see them!

As above, very shoddy.
