Purring noise

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have started to get this purring noise on the right hand side of my Monte Carlo front end.its not the fan as with this off it still does this, this noise comes and goes have looked inside engine bay can't see anything but can here it more in there, seems to be coming around fan belt area.any thoughts please

When im driving i have a rapid ticking noise from the offside & from the engine, increases with revs & it doesnt really bother me, ive got oil, car runs great, no warning lights so i just crack on, think i seen someone on here mention it was normal & it was to do with the fuel pump.

Ive also got a noise like a leaf stuck inside a vent with the air on full blast except the leaf is plastic (hows that for descriptiology :)) & ive pinpointed that down to being my dash, maybe the glass on the dash display as i can stop it by pressing down on the glass with moderate force with 1 finger, im hoping if i hide under the covers this dash noise will go away.

Plenty folk complain of squeeks

But purring is a strange one

Purring? Have you checked for a cat clinging onto the underneath? ;).

Try pushing 1 or 2 fingers down on the dash plastic screen, thats what stops mine, often i do it a few times & eventually it stops.......until the next time.

At the mo it isnt stressing me out too much but come 1st service ill get it sorted but then again is it worth the hassle of them potentially causing more faults by taking stuff apart.

Let me know how you get on with the fingers on dash.

I'll give it a go, it doesn't really bother me because I only really have it on number 1 and only use it higher if the windscreen steams up, which it doesn't do much.I'll make it make the noise and see how the method works out.

Sorry, ive made it sound like it is my vents, its not, it just sounds like that type of sound, i get the noise even without having my fans on.

It may be the fuel line in the pocket think behind the expansion tank. Take a look at that video.

I swear it gets louder when they get turned up...

I have a purring noise on my Fabia vRS mark 1. It's the air-con clutch pulley or something. When idling I can hear a purr-purr-purr sound, but if I turn the air-con on it goes away. A pain, but nothing serious, I hope.

Glad it's not just me with this weird noise. I can repeat the noise and it seems to be related to throttle position. low speed and gently pressing the peddle down is when it's most audible. Will be having a poke around the engine bay this weekend to see if I can find anything.

Does it usually happen on a cold start, whilst driving?...if so then could be the turbo dump valve.

Personally i love that sound but only really hear it when doing a cold start drive off under medium to low acceleration .

It happens when hot or cold.

Have been on a 180mile drive this weekend, oil level checked before and after, all is good.

41.6mpg there and 45.2 mpg back.

Took a vid to show what my engine purr sound like. its not as noticeable as the vid makes out.(hope the vid works)

I also had a listen to where the noise seemed to be coming from and believe its the high pressure fuel pump. It seems to be ticking/clicking.

My engines slightly different but its essentially the same component that im hearing ticking so i reckon this ticking is all perfectly normal.

Now where's the OP gone to with his purring?
