1.4 Tsi DSG Vs 2.0 TDI DSG

Featured Replies

I got the whole power to weight thing but, considering a little tuning box enhancing further down the line, is there any difference in the power the two different DSG boxes can take ?

As a novice is it the Nm or the PS that'll kill the DSG ?

I've test driven both, I really like the smothness of the Tsi but know the TDI well from my current Mk2 TDI

The dry-clutch 7-speeder within the 1.4TSI cannot handle as much torque as the wet-clutched 6-speeder within the 2.0TDI. In regards to tuning, both ECU's are locked/encrypted, so until/unless the coding gets cracked your only option will be a tuning box. Diesels respond better to tuning boxes.

Torque is what kills gearboxes. As the 2.0TDI uses the same gearbox as the VRS TDI, you can be sure that it will handle atleast 380lb/ft torque, and probably 10-15% more than that without issues. The 7-speeder is relatively new so nobody really knows how reliable it will be when pushed. The 2.0TDI will be the safer option for tuning.

Thanks Orville,

Any recommendations on tuning boxes, I've been using a chipexpress one on my Mk2 TDI 2.0 PD but at 103k its needs a second turbo and its already had a DMF so whilst I'm generally happy with the product, I have read on here that there are some better units that can play with the turbo settings as well as just the fuel which I believe is what the chipexpress unit does.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

DTUK would seem the best option until/unless someone cracks the ECU encryption to allow for full remapping.
