Yes, I've experienced this (so far only once in 6 weeks of ownership). Like you, noticed no change in steering assistance and light went out on restart.

Recently aquired vag-com and was surprised to find that no faults had been logged in the steering assist module. I'd assumed that I was experiencing the usual steering angle sensor problem - understand this usually generates a DTC.

Guess that the angle sensor's still the most likely cause, but I won't worry too much unless I start logging faults or lose steering assistance.

Mine has done this a few times and once also had no power steering!! Reported to dealer but no fault found. To be fair it hasn't done it since last service.

I had the same problem with my TDi Elegance. Dealer plugged into diagnostics and said that the dash panel was faulty. Replaced under warranty. Don't know if there is any truth but the dealer said "No faults logged on the small computer, but it showed up on the big computer".

Hi

Also check the fluid level.

That would not show up any faults.

I had this last winter. When very cold (~ 0-5deg) the light would come on and a couple of times there would be no power steering. Restart the car once its warmed up and everything goes back to normal.

Dealer diagnosed it as a Steering Angle Sensor. Its been covered loads, see http://www.briskoda.net/forums/search.php?searchid=936510

Had this problem only once. The power steering was working so I switched the engine off for a few minutes, turned it back on & there's been no problem since.

Had this problem twice on the Fabia.

First time the light came on at start up or when driving, no faults logged. Turned out to be the steering angle sensor which was replaced under warranty.

Second time it was coming on at start up when the car was cold. Skoda couldn't find the problem but my wife's cousin, who works at a VW dealer, told me it's probably the battery. If the battery isn't 100% the voltage drops that much on start up that the power steering pump doesn't get enough volts and the light comes on.

Changed the battery and it's never happened again.
