Whiring sound from front

Featured Replies

Has anybody ever had a whirling sound when they switch the ignition off after running the car, it last about 3 seconds and appears to be coming from around the dashboard possibly back of engine around the scuttle trim or near just below the wiper blade motor area, strange noise not causing any issues yet but wondered if anyone else had shared this noise at some point.

Diesels have an anti shudder valve which cuts air to the engine for three seconds after the engine is turned off. It prevents run on. The valve opens after three seconds or so and is motor driven. The whir you hear is that electric motor.

There are also fans, vacume valves and other motors which make noises but basically that's what you are hearing and it's normal.
