Fmic on pd130 turbo remap

Featured Replies

What benefits would be felt from a fmic over smic on a remapped pd130

More performance more of the time.

Bigger cooler means less heat soak means more performance more of the time.

will you notice on the road? in summer maybe but in reality probably not - unless you drive everywhere like your hair is on fire

will you notice on track? probably if spring or autumn definitely if summer

what he says ! I think a cooler on a remapped 130 is pretty pointless unless you are doing track days and stuff, racing corsa's up and down the motorway it will be fine lol

It deffo helped on my first vrs when going up and down those big hills on the heads of the valley road to swansea.

Nice warm day it will make all the difference after a few red lines. This weather not alot though I think.

will it improve performance though? or just help it not drop off so much/quickly?

Help it not drop off with heat soak I would say but I would also see that as an improvement in performance but not a gain in power.

Mine sounded different after I fitted my FMIC.

Different how? And any suggestions of relatively cheap fmic?

Just a bit louder and noise seemed to drone more, bit lore of a whoosh when on boost! Not that I'm complaining!

Well worth doing

You'll probably get a performance increase across the rev range. Will be able to sustain performance 100% of the time

FMIC = cooler air, cooler air is denser, which holds more oxygen = more bang.

How often you get much denser air than with a normal little SMIC can depend obviously.

For a run through all gears once it doesn't add any performance, in fact my car made more power on a dyno but that could be dyno area it was around 3 bhp more.

What are people popping in?

And what size would I be looking at?

If your not buying a specific fabia kit you will need to whip the bumper off and do some planning, the bigger the cooler the better.

Airtech do a great cooler package that includes all the pipework from the turbo up to the top boost pipe, brackets, map sensor adapter and obviously the cooler. Such a good qual piece of kit for £475. Got pics of it being installed in my thread here:

I'm happy because I know that the majority of the pipes have been replaced with jubilee clips and silicone tubing which is way more reliable than the VAG bayonet and alu lug connectors which tend to wear, leak and lose you power especially under a lot of boost. And also the cooler is much much larger than the smic. I guess it's just future proofing your car for further mods. The only reason I can think vag use the smic with the bayonet clips is that they're a consumable part and know they could make lots of money with people replacing theirs over time, especially at the crazy price they charge for a single piece of pipe work.
