DIESEL OCTAVIAS

Featured Replies

hello there. could someone tell me the difference in the mark 1 and mark 2 elegance. ive been advised to stick to mark 1, either 2005/2006. is it true to say that mark 1s dont have 2.0L diesel engines. They only go up as far as 1.9tdi. Am i right in saying that. Any advice or info on buying one of these cars would be appreciated.

mk1 are based on vw golf mk4 and mk2 are based on vw golf mk5

mk2 are much nicer both inside and drive so if your budget stretches to a mk2 go for one of these instead of mk1

there is no mk1 2.0tdi there is only a mk1 1.9tdi  from 90bhp to 130bhp whereas the mk2 1.9tdi only come in 105bhp but they can be mapped for more power

The mkI elegance will be either a 110bhp injection pump or 130bhp PD diesel. The 110 were more common.

Having had a mkI and now a mkII elegance the mkII is miles ahead in terms of comfort and handling. Finding an 05 mkI is not easy and I don't remember seeing an 06 that wasn't a Taxi - which is poverty spec.

In fact the Mk2 pre facelift is MK5 Golf based, the facelift is MK6 Golf. The FL Mk2 is the best of the bunch as it has the most current tech this side of a MK3

Do 2006 Mk 1s actually exist? I thought they started selling the Mk II in 2005? I guess perhaps some old stock got sold off in 2006...

Unless it is to save money I'm not sure why you'd want a Mk I instead of a Mk II. Did the person who advised you to got for a Mk I explain why?

They were sold in taxi spec with 105bhp pd engines in the UK until 2008 and I think 2010 elsewhere.

I think the last one I saw was a 2009 car. I'm pretty sure that after the Mk2 was introduced they started doing a taxi spec which was somewhere between Classic and Ambiente trim with a 1.9 PD105 engine.

Anyway, going back on topic, I'd recommend a Mk2 over a Mk1. The Mk1 might be the safer and slightly more reliable choice but the Mk2 is a much nicer car to sit in and drive.

Just part ex'd my 2010 Mk II 1.6 CR Tdi estate. Briliant car, very comfy reliable and quiet.  Awesome on fuel - I loved it

Mk2 was a big improvement from skoda compared with Mk1. There would have to be a very big difference in price between the two to chose the Mk1 even for the same year.

Blimey! Think I'm going to have to see if I can spot myself a post-2005 Mk 1...

Barryoliver75 - I have a 2005 Elegance spec. Mk II with the 1.9 TDi engine (BKC engine code) if you have any specific questions?

A local taxi company bought a dozen or so in 2008, still see some of them around.
