Another firmware recommendation question

Featured Replies

I'm preparing to update my factory fitted Columbus to the new V10 maps - had a chat with my local Skoda dealership and they have informed me that disks are available and they can arrange it for me.

However their computer says "no" - there aren't any firmware updates required. Well I know there aren't any required, however it doesn't stop me installing that part myself!

So, looking under version information on my unit I see the following:

3T0035680A

H42

2764

From that information can anyone suggest me an "official release" firmware revision to upgrade to?

Not interested in anything modified, so official releases only please. Not sure of the difference between the 3xxx & 4xxx lines. But I guess as I'm potentially starting again with maps and music - go for the latest?

Thanks for any pointers.

Suggest you go for 412x on www.rnsfirmware.com

4020 or 4120 (if you want radio text as I believe it has that as well).

Get the firmware done before the maps as you almost certainly will need to put them back on along with the music.

adamal: why is the 4120 link on RNS Firmware (http://www.rnsfirmware.com/27/) 'modified for Europe'?

What's do special about Europe in the firmware?

I think its an australian site related to vwwatercooled.com.au. So I suspect the mods referred to here are country specific hardware related issues, eg use of mph rather in selected countries than kph and different size of maps etc, rather than related to the age of the hardware.

Thanks for that. I'll admit it looks like a minefield out there - modified for this, modified for that, old gateway fix applied, etc.

I'll take a look at the 4120 release.

Stoofa: I agree, it is a minefield (perhaps why Skida dealers shy away from doing it).

adamal: any idea if the unmodified one will work on 3T0...A HW04?

Or fry my motherboard...

I'm looking for reassurance before I pop the CD in the Columbus.

Yes I think so. I was going to say it worked fine for a similar hu on AJs car (that post Chris linked to).

Looks like 4120 will be fine then. The thing is, my car is still under warranty, so if everything goes wrong I'll just say "switched the Columbus on one morning and now it doesn't work"..."Firmware upgrade, what's one of them then?"

But I'm sure it'll just work :)

You probably already know more than the dealer....

Good luck.

Does anyone know of a free ISO burner than allows me to select 1x or 2x burning speeds?

In the past I've burnt this kind of thing at "max speed" and it just doesn't work. Would like to burn nice and slow.

Anyone know of a free ISO burner?

The most commonly used burner is 'imgburn' a freeware utility from imgburn.com. However, it can't override your minimum drive speed so even if you say 1x then it will change to the drive's minimum.

I would recommend the same and go for minimum available subject to your drive as Chris says.

So, all completed today.

Firmware 4120 installed without any drama. Left it going and it completed in around 45-50 minutes.

Used the V10 maps - original disk, so didn't have any real fears of that not working, and those installed in just under an hour.

Now just the fun of copying all of my music back - copied all to an SD card, but it's the copying onto the HD which is the slow bit. However we've got a relatively long drive on boxing day, so hope we can complete that on route.

Its faster copying when driving as i think less power is committed to avoid battery drain when stationary. Good result.
