Car park prang

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

well parking in a car-park and did the stupid caught someone else's car on the wheel arch, left my details and they text me, polite and said thanks for leaving details, only thing is the photo's I have the damage to my car (black octy) does not match up to the damage on the Smax, it looks like there was damage before hand?

Not sure whether to go through insurance or not?

also the white scratches were there before hand on mine as someone hit my car and did not leave details, which I think is wrong.

basically I am happy to pay for any damage I have done whether insurance but I don't want to pay over the odds.

If they sounded nice people,

And u did the decent thing and left your details ...

...maybe they be honest when u ask them if that scratch was there before?

No harm in asking.

Then again if they are greedy -

Thy might caught on that u weren't sure yourself and try to blame u :-(

But I would still ask them...

I may do that, we shall see, cheers for the reply though

Good luck and keep us posted!

All the best with this, hope this is one of those times that prove there are still good people in this world.

I had the opposite happen to me a few years back when I was working in a shop. An old boy backed into my Polo's wing and made a small dent, he did the right thing and left his details. I rang him up and said thanks for your honesty, but really don't worry about it.

He put two and two together, realised I worked there, asked the staff on duty next time I was there and found out it was mine, and left me a pack of beers. :)

Karma happened a couple of years ago and I caught someone's wing mirror in traffic in the van, putting a crack in the mirror case. It was my fault, I apologised, asked him what I wanted to do and gave him my card. He said that the car was due to go back to Motability in 6 months, and if they didn't say anything, then he wasn't bothered. I never heard anything back.

Well, I would be expecting to pay to repair around the wheel arch, even if there were some marks there before. :)

I would be questioning it if somehow damaged the bonnet, or a door, etc. :)

+1   Just take the hit....

As above, you've hit the arch, doesnt matter if it was damaged or not before you hit it, they'll still be getting that part repaired so you'll not pay any more than you should.

thats what I am thinking, am fully prepared to pay, always happens when tax and mot come around! ah well don't understand why people don't do the right thing and leave details all the time, anyone roughly know how much it would cost?

Hard to tell from the pictures but is the S-Max's wing dented?

If not then it'll just be paint.

It all depends on where it goes to be fixed. A smart repair could cost as little as £250. If it goes to an insurance company approved bodyshop (overheads, higher labour rates, courtesy cars etc.) then it could easily exceed £1,000.

Ford bumpers are white under the paint / primer so scratches always look worse than they are.
