Choking

Featured Replies

Having a problem with my vrs still.

On cold starts especially early morning (just now) the car is starting first time but then is really lumpy. The whole car will shake and judder with very little response to throttle. During this time the headlights will also severally dim each time the revs drop.

Where it gets very wierd is it will do this for 30 seconds or so and then runs fine revs settle down car sounds fine and is perfectly drive able with no causes for concern

I get no warning lights on the dash at any point either

Any ideas?

Have you cleaned the throttle body at all? It's a good place to start if you haven't.

Also the SAI could be leaking air. As you probably know it comes on for the first minute or so and then once it switches off it could explain why your car feels fine afterwards. Theres a simple bolts fix for that.

And the standard "check every bit of pipework for splits/breaks" deal.

Eliminate those potential problems first and if it's still doing it then hopefully a more technical minded member here can advise.

How old is your battery? Is it better with the lights off?

Sounds like there could be some sort of a short on your SAI pump wiring that is causing too much of a drain?

Check the fuse box on top of the battery, as part of the sai wiring draws current through those fuses. any corrosion in that area will not allow the system to work well.

Thanks guys hopefully going to get chance to have a good look tomorrow.

I haven't cleaned the throttle body as i dont have vagcom and thought without being able to reset it there would be little if any benefit.

The battery is 6 months old and shows no other signs to indicate a weakness there.

Ive had the car 7-8 month and have never being happy with the start up. When the sai is active ive always found it a pain just not to this level.

No no, you dont need vagcom so long as you dont disconnect the wires from the TB.

It's actually frightening the difference it makes to stuttering revs. I, along with many other here had the stuttering in 1st and 2nd gear. Cleaned the throttle body and wow. Gone.

When I did mine there was just a tiny slither of black gunk and cleaning that away made the world of difference.

I do think that your issue sounds like more than just the TB though but still do clean it.
