Hello from Switzerland

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I'm Sino and I'm from Switzerland.

Today I got a 2008 Skoda Oktavia 4x4 1.8 from my dad (he got the new one with DSG and lot of new cool options :p ).

The car has about 50000km, being my second car after a Peugeot 206 1.4 I consider it an amazing upgrade!

I discovered this forum researching some informations about the Firmware Upgrade for Columbus (which I just did an hour ago, worked perfectly). I'm also considering updating maps to new version (just downloaded, it's 16GB of stuff..) but I have to ask for the battery charger to a friend hehe! I also have an OBD device to read data on the iPad and I'm in general a fan of tech stuff so I'm looking forward to do some updates to the car (like DAB radio for example).

Welcome :)

Hi there.

Sorry for the late reply but I've been busy tryin to understand some things.

I'm pretty sure it's the 1.8 TSI, 118kW

Also I was wrong: my father first drive on this car was january 2009 so I think it's a post-facelift (how can I know this?)

The car also reported an engine failure the last year. That was repaired under warranty. Saw a thread to report this and I'll do it but I have to be sure what the problem was (BTW the seller said it was a common problem on this model).

Welcome Sino...

It will be useful to other members to have details of the nature of the engine failure. When you do post these, Sino, could you please include the engine code which you can find on the sticker under the boot carpet. Thank you.

Engine code is CDAA, "trans" code is  KSG

As soon as I get a detailed report of the failure I'll report it, I know very little of engines but from what I know it was a problem with the TENSOR of the timing chain.

Is there any way to identify the car (pre/post facelift and similar) by reading things on the sticker such as the TYP or ID number?
