Emissions workshop light

Featured Replies

I have a 55 plate elegance with 170k and runs great and never missed a click  about 9 months ago the emissions workshop light came on, i have been told it's probably the ignition wiring loom the glow plugs have been tested and all seem to be ok ,i have had the egr valve cleaned  so before it goes in for an expensive repair i have been told it can't be diagnosed any thoughts would be appreciated

Have you had it scanned?

It was scanned  or sort of scanned by a of friend of a friend, i'm not sure about the scanner ( don't know anything about it ) but he suggested from the result either egr valve ( which has been cleaned ), it did say the glow plugs where fine and he suggested the ignition wiring loom and from what i have read this should be replaced at least once in a cars lifetime and i have had it 5 years ? but he did sat that as the weather got colder the would struggle to start it's been fine so far ....

I would suggest that you get it scanned with someone with VCDS (you can do a forum search and contact someone near you). If you post up your scan results here the forum members may be able to help you further.

Thanks for the posts guys i stuck on an obd 2 code reader on this morning and came back as p0401 egr flow insufficient  so seems not that big of a deal hopefully get sorted over the weekend !

Hi, take a look at this link, it may help.

It may be worth while whipping the egr valve off and taking a look. It may require cleaning again (mr muscle is very good at this - make sure area is well ventilated though). if it is still clean just make sure the rest of the pipes are unrestricted.

If it is still the same the EGR valve itself may be faulty.

Guys whilst the motor was in having the airbag light checked he bench checked the EGR and he said it was faulty hence , anyways after a few miles the emissions light came back on so if i fit the egr will the light go out or will need to return and have the vcds plugged in ..

It will need to be cleared with VCDS
