Grinding noise

Featured Replies

Evening all.

i know this is a vague description but I have what sounds like a bearing grinding noise coming from the front.  Checked the front wheels and there is virtually no play.  Sounds like it is coming from the middle of the front.  Sound stays the same when steering wheel is turned & is more noticeable when in neutral coasting at 50-60mph.  Car is a 02 110tdi 5dr.  Any ideas?

I am kinda havin the same drop link mibi?

Difficult to diagnose with only that much to go with buddy , but possible issues could be:

Drive shaft inner joint

wheel bearing

gearbox

Drive shaft inner joint is not bad just replace with either second hand complete drive shaft(get for £50) or even new ones not bad.

Wheel bearing about £130 in parts plus labour.

Gearbox could be expensive but even those can be got second hand quite cheap. fitting is 2-3 hours labour

Thanks all.

The sound is all I have to go on at the moment.  Like asking a doctor stuff over the phone.

Have a gluttonous christmas.
