MFD not displaying

Featured Replies

Just became the proud owner of a Mk1 Octavia VSR, got a problem with the MFD not displaying. When I start the car the MFD displays the usual per ignition components and there it ends after that the only display I get is the red car symbol when I open a door. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

I think you mean maxidot display,. The Mk1 VRS does not have a maxidot display as such the stalk controls use the display under the rev counter(left hand side of dash)

Therefore the center dash only lights up on ignition start

you can get things like ASR light (if selected)

and door light if a door is open

so sounds like yours is as it should be.

Please be gentle with me as this is my first Skoda,......how do I select ASR?, find it hard to follow as I have 2 owner manuals but both seem to skirt around this issue.

Button on the dash that says asr. This turns it on and off. Its on unless you turn it off.

Forget ASR for the minute .

What I was trying to say is it sounds like your car is working as it should be. i.e your dash controls and warning lights etc

The maxidot is a center dash display that is used on the later Octavia MK 2 models. It basically provides more display features and include features to audio , sat nav and other warning lights. This is not found on the MK1 Octy that you have.

Right, ASR stands for Anti Slip Regulation and is a very basic form of traction control. It limit's engine revs to try to avoid wheel spin when wheels start loosing traction.

It is permanently on unless you override it by switching it off using the  ASR button to turn it off. Button found at the top of center dash / radio.

If you turn it off the warning light will appear in that dash center display where the door open warning lights are.

hope this makes sense.

Ohh, so the Octavia never got maxidot even with the satnav?

Yes, I believe that they did get maxidot with satnav.

Yes they did but rare as rocking horse poo. Even rarer on the vrs.

They did not get maxidot with even sat nav.

I have sat nav fitted in mine.

Only a very few really late model MK 1 octavias got maxidot and not really worth mentioning as will just confuse the thread. That was a very basic maxidot too unlike the MK 2 octy.
