What do you want from a track day car?

Nice.  I've had a few cars with that engine in - all of them Capris.  This one was the most tuned though, pushing out about 200bhp in theory through a 3 speed auto box.  Happy days.

Ha.Ha.        a 3.0 S model, exactly what I had and plenty of oversteer when the surface was wet.

Some big arch gaps there Skinnyman or are they little wheels.

Yeah, it'd just had some new springs fitted & needed to settle.  The wheels were 15", which is a bit big on the Capri but I loved that car.  It was loud, offensive and made small children cry.  The X-Pack was a bonus and like Marmite, it was loved and hated in equal measures.  I had another 3.0s after that which was equally as nice but more subtle.

The loudest I had was the 2.8i with performance manifolds and exhausts.  Again, happy days......

I have a mk3 Golf 2.0 8v which I'll start using as a dedicated track car next year, once it has some new tyres!

Not the quickest thing but a good base to learn track driving and have some fun above all.

Is stripped out interior, and will travel to track on a trailer. Can't wait!

Car cost me £300, spare engine in the garage for when something gives. Bought it to use in production car trials and did but that scene wasn't for me as it turned out. Did have it taxed and insured for use in trials but it is a huge recurring cost when it's only being used occasionally.

what it is guys is a family member on my wifes side is building a car.

he has lots of years experience in the car building and design field from F1 to performance cars.

Ive seen pics of the new one he is making and its pure porn.

he is still getting it track ready then its on to the road legal tests but he knows all about whats needed so should be sorted.

Soon as I get more info on the car Ill let you know too. cant say much as it stands yet, hoping to get to a track soon for testing.

I am just interested to know the general consensuse on what every one is after from a track car be it a road car that's ok on track or a dedicated track car that's legal for the road, then if its got a roof and screen or one that needs a helmet due to no windscreen.

Just wanting to gather as much info as the one he is making has no windscreen or roof which I would like so I could use it all year round but due to the bull ****e legal crap that's needed when you make a car with a windscreen and roof he says its not worth it just yet.

As far as budget, anything from free to 100k+   not sure what prices this one tho.

Billy

He can fit a windscreen or an IVA friendly aeroscreen to get through the IVA then take them off and do what he likes, it will still be legal to drive on the road,

Capri's and Scimitars, this thread must be like potn to old (er) petrol heads. Saw a scimitar for sale couple of days ago and had to fight the urge to get the number of the seller.

Have you any details on it? It may be unknown to the club so any details like number plate and colour will help ;)

a mate of mine had a Fisher Fury, that did not have a screen and was bonkers fast with an R1 engine in there.

I was tempted by one of these but parts were hard to source. The company has been passed around a bit.

He bought it as an unfinished project, car was almost complete but with no engine, he then bought a crashed motorbike for the engine. He was also lucky that he found a front end damaged Fury he could strip for bits.

He has however since sold it to a guy from Scotland who has added a turbo to it!

It was really quick, flappy paddle gear change etc but would be a bit dire in the wet with no roof.

Civic type r ep3 would be great fun. cheap as chips nowadays, few mods and a remap youll have 250 bhp with limiter raised to near 9k. Stock clutch can handle 300+bhp so no heavy bills there to pay (even though ep3 clutch is only £150) Handles sublimely anyway with its stock anti roll bars etc. A few people have changed the final drive gear ratio too which makes them accelerate quicker and give a much needed torque boost of +10%. Bullet proof too.
