Car cleaning products to recommend

Featured Replies

I don't want to put my car through a car wash so what is the best products i can get to Hand wash my New VRS with. I live in Germany at present so i'll have to buy online. Also any recommendations on Lambswool wash mitts would also be of help. Thanks in advance.

Personally I use the dooka wash pad (small pad for wheels and large or medium depending on your preference for the bodywork.

Megs gold class shampoo with the 2BM.

Do you not have restrictions on how you can wash cars in Germany though?

Gizmo. We do indeed have a numerous rules over Here in Germany no Morning lawns Or hanging washing Out on a Sunday, and also you Cannot wash your car at home, so i thought i'd be a Bit sneakey and wash it at work on a Sunday Morning.

Hello Matty

There are lot of lambs wool mitts available. one tip when using them is to have a rinse bucket as well as having a shampoo bucket. always rinse it before going back into the shampoo, it gets rid of any grit.

What! You can't wash your own car on your own property. Why, water rationing?

What facilities do you have at work Matty? Do you have access to either a hosepipe or a jetwash?

Laws in Germany state that home car washers will pollute the environment....so its prohibited!!

That's no emigration for you then!

Dead right!!

My B in Law lives near Kassel, Germany

He has always washed his car on the drive and nobody has said anything....although infrequently..he doesn't see the point,  "It only gets dirty again!!"..... LOL

BUT

He was reported by a neighbour for hanging out the washing on a Sunday!!

Yeah Crazy Germans with their enviromental laws but funnily enough you can buy lots of car cleaning products from the supermarkets sonax ??? Is that stuff any good??. I will be washing it by Hand two bückets wash Mitt etc. etc. Drive it into my nice heated Hangar and give it a dry Once i Decide what pre wash, Shampoo and polish to buy.

I've just got a dooka wash pad and it's better than the meguiars mf mit I was using before IMO. For a Pre wash a citrus ph neutral one diluted to the recommended strength and applied with a garden spray gun would be a good choice as you have no jetwash/snowfoam lance. I use autoglym shampoo conditioner but any good quality shampoo will do as long as its ph neutral. For wax I use autoglym high dev on mine while others use a sealer first then a wax. Using a QD when drying is worthwhile as it helps preserve your wax. To dry I use a wooly mamouth towel, with a couple of large kent drying towels once the WM is wet as its easier than trying to wring the mamouth out by hand to remove the final water and do the door jams, hatch and under the bonnet. Wheels get a clean with bilberry wheel cleaner. I'd recommend you clean the alloys with ironx and detar them with tardis, clean with bilberry then seal them with a good quality wheel wax or sealer which will last around 6 months between sessions with just cleans with billbery wheel cleaner when you wash the rest of the car.

Spot on recommendation there Ade

I also have a Spin dryer in the garage (eBay have many) , I use it to spin dry my Wooly Mammoth and Dooka

For the price of a cheap pressure washer, its a MUST have !!!!

you're bad for my bank balance! I was very surprised just how much water the woolly mamouth holds- normally the kent ones dry out naturally between cleaning sessions but the WM was still damp when I cleaned the car yesterday. Good idea on the spin dryer though I'm going to try using the washing machine in the kitchen first on a rinse and spin cycle to see if I can avoid getting a spin dryer for the garage as I'm struggling for space as it is ;)

With regard to drying the car...this is what I've found best for me:

Following the final rinse I give a light spray with GD and then, a couple of panels at a time, I use an ordinary (but good) drying towel to remove as much water as it'll take. I then go over the panels again with the Woolly Mammoth. That way the `WM` doesn't end up too wet and is much easier to handle. Car ends up nice and dry and shiny.

Regards

Mike.

That should be `QD` rather than `GD`. Sorry.

Interesting.... guess we're doing a similar thing, just a different way round. I do the same as you do with the QD and if I hold the WM by the corners and drag it across the roof, then bonnet rear hatch and then down the sides and back/front the WM is by that stage quite full. By swapping to the smaller kent drying towels at this stage I find them easy to work with to finish the car off but I'll try your method to see if its better.
