My Yetis exhaust.

Featured Replies

Hi just been down at the filling station to fill the yeti up with diesel and when I got out there was a smell like a new exhaust smell

The engine was off but there was still a sound coming from the engine it lasted about 10mins

Any ideas my friend says it will be burned off diesel soot........?

you were having a regeneration.

It's normal, nothing to be concerned with.

Yes, DPF regen cycle to burn the soot off.

You've stopped while it's part way through the cycle.

Nothing to worry about.

Forgot to say what powers the DPF when its standing still is its the battery

AFAIK It's not being powered as such, it has a sensor monitoring it's condition and when it senses it needs to clear itself it starts during the drive but will continue after stopping the engine if it hasn't completed it's cycle, as Bossfox stated.

My simple explanation is based on observation of mine, experts please oblige with details/corrections.

Now if only I could get a DPF fitted to myself.

A regeneration every once in a while would keep me young and handsome!

The noise you heard is from the electric fans behind the radiator. The regen creates heat in the exhaust by adjusting the fuelling and advances the timing so as to double the exhaust gas temps (give or take a few degrees) this then burns off the soot that has been caught, you will notice the driving characteristics are different, very responsive and your tick over will be around 1,000rpm.  All of which is quite normal.

Not a chance.
