Featured Replies

hi check my oil today ,witch i check every month on my octy 2.0 vrs on a 55 plate.

i top it up but the filler cap had a lite brown mess on it .the water bottle for the engine has dropped from the max to the min.

the temp of the car does not go past 90 it stops in the middle.car does not feel any diffrent.

so ive chec the paper work for the car it seems to not of had the water pump change.could this be the fault.

.any suggestions and help wud be greatful

First things first, how many miles do you do a day/week? Do you do a lot of short journeys?

Cold temperature can cause condensation on the underside of the oil filler cap.

The water pump is a possible source of a water leak, but the water should not leak into the sump.

i do a lot of short journeys going to work and back.the round trip is about 14miles but having to go threw town so its a lot of start ,stop.

My octavia has the sludge on the filler cap once the cold weather comes,a good run or when the weather warms up it goes so id say dont worry about that, your coolant leak wants investigating, has it gone down since you topped it up?

i hav a look at coolant 2mow morn.i let u no 2moz

thanks

I have a 2006 vRS & only drive 8 miles to work.

So mine constantly has the mayo under the cap!

Ive never had this on any other car ive owned so It used to realy bother me but like micky says a good run always clears it!

Perfectly normal.

It's common on the petrol vRS, especially ones that only do short journey's.

It's condensation, that otherwise would be burnt off with a nice hot engine. Short journey's where the engine rarely gets a nice long run see's the water mix with the oil and collect at the top off the engine.

Here is another member's oil cap who also does short trips...

The mayo doesn't seem like a problem, and probably not a consequence of the coolant leak.

The level dropping in the header tank could be serious, especially if the leaking water/antifreeze mix contaminates any drive belts.  In a water-tight motor, it shouldn't move much at all.

Get the leaked checked out by a competent mechanic.  If there's an obvious puddle under the car, it could be something simple like a perished/split/insecure coolant pipe.  If there's no trace of the leak, it could be the pump.  VAG water pumps seem to be prone to leak, either around the shaft or around the seal where they fit into the block.

In any case, leaking coolant won't get better by itself, only worse over time.  You risk a seized motor if you ignore it.
