removing fuel from tank?

Featured Replies

Just wondering of the most efficient way to drain a vrs petrol tank please? Hopefully a way to remotely trigger fuel pump in tank and drain from somewhere in engine bay?

Not quite the same car but...................

I had to do this on a mondeo and I used a large 9v battery wired directly to the fuel pump (under rear seat) and took the line from the under side of the car. Just used a Haynes manual to locate the line.

It filled a jerry can in 5-7 mins.

Failing that I've used a fuel transfer tool into the tank and set it up using a syphon equally as good if you haven't go an anti syphon system in the tank header

With my evo, I just took the fuel return line from the fuel rail, and put it into a jerry can, and started the engine.

Emptied itself in no time and was no effort.

Starting engine no longer an option now sadly.

I think there might be something under the back seat bench bit but am totally clueless to what technically is there and how to use it.

The pump is under the back seat, so you could take the feed line from that, but as above you would need to power it direct.

Remove fuel pipe from fuel rail and stick it in a can, remove fuel pump relay and bridge connectors

Am I the only one who has visions of a spark setting off the fuel vapour.

Fire brigade on standby I hope.

All drained without so much as a spark.

Not the best idea but needed doing :)

I'd just whip the pump out of the tank and use a siphon hose.

Use a long enough hose and manoeuvre the end around for the dregs.

As above, you can use a windscreen washer bottle pump to get it out
