Help needed!

Featured Replies

I think I already know the answer to this but I thought I'd put it out there, I had my alloys refurbed recently and although I'm over the moon with the work, I've noticed and felt that they removed the weights on the wheels without telling me?? Is this what they do as they were redone without the tyres removed and equally should I have been told? I'm now running a car with a lot of weird noises?!? Any help all good?

If they removed the weights then the wheels now need re-balancing (and new weights applied if necessary).

Was it a mobile refurber?

Nope not a mobile, so who has to do that them or me?

Them.

If they are professional alloy refurbishers then they will have the facilities to re-balance the wheels and this will be included in the price.

If they don't or haven't then they should have made it clear that you would need to have them rebalanced yourself.

The only exception to this is when you have a set of alloys refurbed without tyres as they will be balanced as part of the tyre fitting service. Even then a decent refurber will still spin the tyreless wheels up before refurbing them to check for buckle and bends etc.

It sounds like you need to give them a call. Have you checked their website to see if it mentions re-balancing?

All good refurbers mention and offer it, for example...

Thank you!!

The fact they did not remove the tyres would suggest they do not have the equipment to balance them.

I assume they refurbed the inside of the wheels as well?

Eeeerrr no??

In that case there was no need to remove the weights, personally I would be asking them to pay for them to be rebalanced.

I didn’t think the inside would have been done TBH as it’s then easier to remove the tyre completely, blast the wheels down to bear alloy and start afresh.
