Air Bags

Featured Replies

Quick question for those of you who might know a bit about air bags.

I have now removed all the air bags except one from in my car (track car) seats are bucket seats, steering wheel is after market and no airbag so all I am left with are two seat belt tensioners to remove and one passenger side bag to remove.

This has got me thinking, instead of installing resistors to trick the module into thinking the bags are sill present, can I just remove the air bag control module and be done with it? I assume i would also need to remove the bulb from the dash so as to pass an MOT?

OR if you know of a better way to eliminate all things SRS AIR BAG I would be grateful to hear them.

I would try removing the airbag controller from the CAN gateway.

(Not sure if that is possible as I have not tried it)

Thanks Gizmo, I will try and work out how to do that and report back if it works or not, Plan "B" is to just remove all the bags, crash sensors and controller, then remove the bulb from the dash    Job done.

I did this in my 206 track car, all SRS bits gone and airbag light is on on dash as am guessing something knows its not there,

Am just going to strip clocks down and take bulb out

I am also thinking of doing this BUT depending on who you speak to MOT testers will be looking for airbag light to come on when the ignition key is turned and then go out afterwards, I was thinking of bridging the wires to oil pressure light or wiring a timer in so as the light performs as it should.

Or find an MOT centre that has a tester with common sense.

Will the airbag controller let you could out all of the airbags and pretensioners? That way the light will still work on the dash ok.

I can disable them all in VCDS but when this is done the light stays on, this is normal apparently to warn the system is inactive.

I have also been reading if the controller is removed the car will not start without some wiring being joined up in the airbag circuit, not too much of a problem.

I wish things were like my old LandRover with only half a dozen fuses and not much else electrical

Code out all but one then fit a resistor for the last one.

I will try this trundlenut as soon as the rain stops and i can get out there!

I could also do with removing the crash sensors, any ideas?   They are located near the inner sills in front of the seats at floor level.

I have access to elsawin if thats any use to you.

Does that do a bit more than VCDS?  If it has the ability to turn off or code out the airbag system then a trip across might well be in order.  Thanks for the offer.

No its the VAG workshop manual thingy, might explain how things are connected.
