E-Diff Lock on a mk1?

Featured Replies

I'm going to be looking at getting a vrs soon and I have found one that I like the look of.

It's a Red one with 71k on the clock and a FSH.

It's advertised as having Electronic Differential Lock but as far as I can find this was only avaliable on the mk2's?

Can anyone shed some light on this for me please.

Thanks.

It uses the abs to brake the spinning wheel, so fake EDL really.

Thanks for shedding some light on that for me  :)

If its the normal traction control your better off without as its fecking dangerous

Yeah it has what they call ASR which is traction control. It's sometimes quite annoying when it cuts in, other times not noticeable.

The mk1 Octavia does have an EDL system

On the 2wd cars it operates to 25mph iirc

On the 4x4's it operates to 50mph iirc

This is part of the ABS software, can be disabled via the ASR/ESR button, but is separate to the ASR system which uses the drive-by-wire throttle

The ASR/ESP button disables both at the same time

If you want the EDL system without ASR, VCDS will be needed turn off ASR (leaving the ASR/ESP button to enable/disable EDL alone)

Must say the EDL is useful in snow and works quiet well, well alot better than my volvo i had before that was hopeless in white stuff

I did not know this!!

I also didn't know you could disable ASR - this is a tempting thing to do as the car drives better with it off with the power I have and the LSD.

Some info here: mk-mkivs - ESP defeats

EDL brakes the spinning wheel and then sends the power to the other side. Cant really tell its there with the ASR but in my old 1.6 that never had ASR you could feel it shifting the power from wheel to wheel. Helps abit in the snow but not loads

I thought that only the later MK1 Octy's had both ASR/ESP button, with ESP being the EDL part.

Most only have just ASR right?

To disable ASR just means switching ASR button to set as off.
