Pricing advice - wheels

(NOT A FOR SALE POST!)

As announced on the Yeti forum, in a bit of a surprise move I traded my Octavia for a Yeti on Saturday and will pick the new (to me) car up at the end of the month.

When I say surprise, it really was; I even bought a Haynes manual on Friday planning for the long term, and had the cambelt etc done only a couple of months ago.

Anyway, I'll be putting all the Octavia specific stuff up on the for sales as soon as the Yeti arrives (Vanstyle sun blinds, Brodit dashmounts, centre console, air vents, that sort of thing) and have a fair idea of the value (or lack of) but the things that I'm not sure about are the wheels.

I've got a set of 17" VRS alloys bought about 3 years ago from Octygone and typically only used them in the warmer months. They're not perfect; there are a couple of marks, scuffs, chips and bubbling around one of the valves but to my eye at least they are no where near needing refurbishment as yet. They are far from mint but also far from poor condition. I reckon that they're good enough that with a mixed set of just legal tyres they would comfortably sell for upwards of £250.

Thing is, with me not having any intention to sell the car, I spent £450 putting a new set of Michelin Primacy 3 tyres on 4k or so miles ago. As the 1.6 tdi greenline driven frugally doesn't chomp through tyres, they are basically as new.

Do you think I'll get a reasonable amount of my money back or am I going to end up with a huge hole in my wallet?

As clarified at the start, this is not a for sale post; I'll only put them up for sale once the Yeti is sat on my drive, and then I'll advertise them properly via the For Sales.

What size wheels are on the yeti? Could you take off the tyres and store until you need them? Would the alloys be worth keeping as a winter set?

I think the Yeti is 225/50R17 as opposed to the 225/45R17 that I've got. Whilst your idea does sound like a good one, I suspect the undersized wheels might look a tad daft.

I suspect selling the wheels might be a better option

Well I got a set of 17 vrs alloys with 4 good (but budget) tyres for £220 from here. I suspect you will struggle to get much more than £300 for them on here but may get lucky on eBay.

Sorry I suspect that was not what you wanted to hear.

I sold my zenith alloys on ebay for £420 and they needed a refurbished. And the tyres were cheap horrible things

Wow, that's an awesome price for 17s. Good effort :)

Yeah I was mega surprised and happy with the price.
