help and advice buying a 1.9tdi fabia

Featured Replies

Can anyone give me some advice in looking to buy a 1.9 tdi, been looking but they all seem high milage.

When they get passing 120,000 miles dont they need an engine rebuild and lots of maintenance?

I have the 1.4 16v elegance 100bhp petrol, x reg 95000 miles, and the prices ive seen for those are over 1000 but the tdi are less than 1000, I dont understand why as I would assume that the tdi are more sort after?

Looking for the elegance tdi by the way if you hadnt guessed, heated seats :P

Please help guys and girls!

Regards,

Noob...

I'm pretty sure 120,000 is just about run in, engine-wise... but I'm sure someone else will be able to chip in who's actually covered that many miles. Mine's done 85,000ish now, bought at 70,000 last year.

Apart from servicing, doors leaking, and rear brakes needing a little attention, the only major hiccup I've had has been with the gearbox. I don't think it's a common issue though. The bearings and sychromesh cones on first and second were all mashed up. The previous owner barely did any miles in it though, so I'm guessing their driving style may have been to blame... mostly. I'd be sure to check there aren't any issues engaging first or second whilst moving, and reverse when stationary.

Now those issues have been sorted, the car has been great and it drives much better than when I bought it.

There was a Fabia high miles thread somewhere and from memory, I don't think 150,000-170,000 was the exception to the norm for a TDi. At least I hope not, as I'm going to have to keep mine until it falls to bits/I win the lottery.

Most MK1s will be around 150K by now.  Lets face it, if you have a car with 50K miles on it and it was owned by a muppet it may well need loads of work.  If you have a car with 200K and owned by someone with ocd it might well be in better condition with more extras than when it left the factory.

Don't judge a car by it's mileage before seeing it.  There's a local village idiot who continuously phones and texts me to ask me about the mileage on cars he's looking at.  He's never got any intention of buying the cars or modifying them or doing these great engine swaps he keeps banging on about because he could barely change a flat tyre on his own, I think he just likes to try and sound like he's mechanically knowledgable. Long story short, he thinks mileage on a car is everything.

My VRS has just hit around the 155K mark.  Unfortunately mine had been allowed to acquire loads of problems before I bought it (at around 110K) but I got it cheap so I didn't mind fixing a few parts.  The engine just needed normal servicing since though.  The engines themselves are solid as a rock if looked after.

my 1.9 tdi is on 118k and seems fine. I picked it up last year with 92k and have serviced it my self twice already. I'm just about to do another one when the rains finally stops.

123,184 and still sweet as a nut :) Not considering an engine rebuild any time soon either :D

Hi AaronMountford1990

I am selling a TDI elegance estate, see the car in the for sale section,. Has 76k miles and full service history. I have owned from new. Engine burns no oil and in great condition. Let me know if you want more information that is not already on the post.
