  • There's some of your low mpg right there.  Keep in gear down sharp hills, revs about 2500 - I promise you, you use ZERO fuel as gravity and your gearbox keep the engine ticking over, and the fuel inje

I get double that!  250 miles to a tank must be only about 25mpg based on a 10 gallon tank?!  :o

hmmm... will there be something up with it? maybe if i custom remapped it will i gain a extra 100 mile lol

yes mate car runs fine, warms up fine aswel

I wouldn't map it if it isn't running properly dude!

cant smell any diesel and no marks on tarmac to say theres a leak lol

What is the car saying the long term mpg is?  (select average mpg, then hit the button under the stalk to select "2")

that sounds **** poor bud, what sort of mileage are you doing daily? not teaching you to suck eggs but diesels aren't the best if your just going 2-3 miles every day, they only really become economical if you can give it a proper journey, I would try filling the tank an go for a 100 mile sensible drive up a motorway, see it that changes the mpg!

lol yeh it is kinda up and down

I'd be disappointed with 28.2 from a 2.0 petrol turbo!

PS: why does your profile say car is "golf anni" ?

any ideas how i can get some more mpg out of the car

Service, and check maf is ok. Both of those upped by mpg or seemed like it did straight after. Also, check your tyre pressures regularly, that can add a few on.

how can i check if maf is ok? doesnt bring any faults on dash? could it still be faulty even if there is no faults on dash

That does sound very poor, my old Type R and VXR used to do about that and both were modified!

If you’re doing a lot of short stop start journeys and the engine isn’t getting chance to warm up then mpg takes a nose dive but even 28MPG sounds poor. I do short journeys during the week and I see at worst mid to low 30s.

There are some basic things you can do/check that could improve mpg...

Are the tyre pressures are correct?
Brake pads aren’t rubbing and the wheels spin freely?
Wheel alignment is straight?
Air filter is clean, free from debris and the front intake pipe isn’t blocked?
When it was last serviced, was the correct PD oil used? (Very important not just for mpg)
Tried running some FORTE diesel treatment through the system? Very good stuff and worth a try.

If the above don’t improve things then I’d get someone with a code reader or VCDS to see if that brings anything up.

tyres all fine i check regulary

all service parts was changed around 2k miles ago,

wheel alignment -pulls to one side,

ill try the treatment tmoz and clean the are intake,

ive put a obd reader on, only fault came up was the egr because ive blanked it, needs mapping out

Scan with VCDS to see if any sensors up the spout.  This is why I asked about the coolant temp sender as symptom of that being a dud is poor fuel consumption.  Also check tyres evenly inflated to 32 (ish) PSI.  Maybe check tracking all OK too?
