sudden power drop then power re gains..?...

Featured Replies

hi guys, ive only had my vRS a few days and one of the things ive noticed with it is....... (i will try to explain as best i can)...

if say, going around a bend using throttle,, the power suddenly drops out,, if i release pedal and re apply,, power again...

it has happened when going over a bump to.!

now this isnt traction control, because the abs light and also traction control lights are both on due to an abs sensor failed

could i be right in thinking, it could be a dodgey crank shaft sensor or dodgey connection with it and a bump or turning motion suddenly looses signal tempararily??

or is there a common problem and cause for this odd issue?

thanks

could well be crank sensor but when my one went i wouldnt let me start car sometimes i could be fuel pump

Fuel pump

What mileage on the car ???

Fuel pump

What mileage on the car ???

+1 on the fuel pump might of had it replaced with a non oem that's not fitted right think Rob Clubley had trouble with a walbro one.

Does this happen on a full tank?  If when almost empty sounds like a swirl pot issue

It's happened with half a tank of fuel in the car.. It's very strange as I went over a bump and noticed it did it... It's like the traction control cutting in but as I say, it can't be as that's currently off due to an abs sensor.....

I just don't wanna go out and spend on a fuel pump for a car I've only had 3 days and that not be the problem :-/

Could also be the brake light switch.

Check the brake lights work. Its dual circuit switch. Half of it does the lights and the other half controls the ecu for cruise if fitted. If the second part is playing up the car csn think your braking when you aren't and cut the power.

funny you should mention that as the strangest thing happened last night.....

sat there on gta5 lol,,, when i heard a noise, jumped up only to find the dog had knocked something in the kitchen. anyway lol.....

red lights caught my eye, it was the brake lights on the vRS on my driveway.!!

obv i went out to investigate to find nobody had tampered with it, and when i pressed the pedal they went out and stayed out.

but if you put foot under the brake pedal and put a little (tiny actually) force,, the brake lights come on. which should not happen obv..

the switch seems real sensitive to be honest so i guess over bumps the brake lights must be flickering

(car hasnt got cruise control btw)

ive also had a think.. are these cable throttle or fly by??

faulty tps?

Dodgy Brake light switch can cause loads of faults bud, new ones are cheap but just be careful when fitting it as you can break it if done incorrectly.

i think that will be the first thing on the list of to do's lol, which isnt huge, butthere are a couple of niggles need sorting.

i would have changed it anyway after last night but hearing this is making me wantto get one tomoro literally.!!

by the way, would you believe me if i told you i straight swapped it 2 days ago for a saab 95 estate 2.2 tid with no less than 205,000 miles on the clock??

so even with the niggles,,, i am literally :-D

Sounds like a winner, I am good for some things !!!

Only buy a genuine switch as the pattern ones are pooh. I notice you are localish, you need either the main dealer or TPS parts in Cardiff either way.

Last one I bought was about a tenner, I'd go to TPS as they would usually have them on the shelf.

Lovely thanks mate.

On the back door having a burn just now and the brake lights were on again.!!

Opened the car, tapped brake pedal with my hand and they went out.

I think that's my culprit you know

Would that cause abs and traction control lights to come on??

More than likely brake switch tied into abs/tcs systems.

Both lights have been on since I had it 2 days ago.. I first thought abs sensor which is an easy fix anyway but I will fit this new brake light switch tomorrow and let you blokes know what happens..

Thanks again

Ant

Did you get one yet ??

  • Author

yes dave,, i fitted it outside tps lol...

no more power drop/cutting... drives good mate

traction control and abs lights came back on so that is pointing towards an abs sensor.. so im happy

nice one

Result, bar the abs lights
