Water in the door cabling - Guidance please!

Send Oet a pm, he may have one to help you, I've bought many things from him and his stuff is good quality used. Or if you wish, try one of the others in the for sale section - Devonutopia is breaking a vrs, but I think he's sold his driver door complete, but I may be wrong.

If I were you, I would renew the door loom too, but it is your call really.

Hope it helps

Phil

PM sent to Oet, fingers crossed! A fresh door loom sounds like a great plan, wonder what the main stealer would want for one...

I did bend that pin back and even managed to plug the connector in a couple of times without flattening it again. It seems very fragile so I'll have that one replaced if I go that way.

Looks like the lower pin in the centre row is just gone though, and I'm not sure there's even any metal on the other side of the connector to receive it! Should have taken a better photo of that side. Lets see if I can get any parts and go from there but I think a decent auto-electrician should be able to fix mine anyway.

I'm planning to go with cling-film wrap once it's working, mainly because I can easily remove it should I have issues later. How's that for confidence!?

Don't wrap the unit in cling film, its worse. Leave the unit as its meant to be.

If you wrap it and water gets in, then there will be no way for it to get out. End result will be a bag full of water with a submerged ECU.

Just use the grease eluded to earlier in the thread to keep moisture out of the connector.

Will do! I'll get some ordered now so it's on-hand for whatever repair I achieve.

Absolutely.

A bad move to do that

It is impossible to stop water getting in so do not want to do anything to hold it.

The wiring looms get brittle just with the normal dampness let alone forcing water to sit somewhere.

Make sure you have clear drain holes in door to allow good breathing and water can escape without gathering.

A good water dispeller on all contacts is the better way to go. I would put this on the main loom to dcm and the door lock plug. You may need to re tape the loom as the crud material tape just falls apart when moved.
