WHICH CAMBELT KIT?

Featured Replies

Which brand cambelt kit are the best to use. 2.0 tfsi is the engine. ? Also any particular brand of water pump or spec?

Gates belts every time. As for water pumps just stay away from the cheap ones, most of the pumps are the same just in different boxes.

Cheers. Looking on ECP Website they have dayco and SKF. Any better places to purchase from? Someone did mention to me that dayco are good.

TPS and get the genuine Skoda one. Don't forget to renew all the tensioners as well, the OEM one you can get as a full kit.

TPS is motor trade only by the looks of it. Will try source a gates kit elsewhere. I see camskill do them so will try them. Also gates do a kit with everything including water pump I think.

+1 for getting genuine parts

Genuine parts for the warranty if it snaps.

Always oe parts unless you know that the oe supplier is also supplying aftermarket. For components that's unlikely for contractual reasons, but a belt might be different.

If you buy non OE you cannot guarantee that the cambelt or the other components are going to last until the next belt change is due. Therefore if you buy non OE budget in additional replacements outside the recommended schedule.

TPS will supply to the public, many on here have purchased parts directly from their locations.

Gates seem to be one of the best recommended brands and I think they are used as Oem.

One place I rung offered 'laser' which sounded a bit cheap n nasty to be honest.

Usually I just use ECP but as I said earlier they do Dayco and SKF which tbh I haven't heard of

although Dayco I believe are good and possibly used as Oem? Might try skoda direct but usually they

charge a premium for their parts.

The genuine kit offers a two year warranty against snapping.

These guys will supply a Gates kit - http://www.vwspares.co.uk/octavia1z_belts.php

I've dealt with them a few times and they are very good. The Skoda kit is simply a re-boxed Gates kit.....identical in every way, but with £50 or so added to the price. If you are doing the belt yourself, then forget about warranties.....they won't cover it if it is not fitted by a garage, so just get a gates kit.

Cheers all excellent advise as always on here. No shouts for dayco etc so looks like gates it is. Job being done at local garage where close friend works so just supplying parts to make sure I know what's being fitted as I like to only fit quality parts. As for water pump is it still the case that inferior plastic impellers are fitted to some?
