Realistic timescale?

Featured Replies

Hi

Just had an update from the Dealership that my VRS Hatch is being loaded onto a transporter today, BUT they said I should expect the car at the end of the month! when I questioned the timescale this is how it was quantified.

Transporter from Grimsby to Gloucester expected Wednesday (5 days)

PDI 5-7 days

Tax 8-10 days (can't TAX on site anymore apparently, have to send documents away)

It is a company car and the lease company are keen to get it to me therefore they won't be causing any unneccesary delays, anyone else had to wait this long once the car is in the dealership?

So close but so far!

Cheers

Seems about right, from memory it's about 2 weeks from shipment to collection.

Seems a bit long. I've been quoted approx 3 weeks from build to delivery:

8~10 days factory to UK port

3 days port to dealer

2 days PDI (considering it takes them a few hours...)

7 days for registering and taxing (yes they have to send away as the local DVLA offices have been closed)

There is obviously some risk on the factory to Uk time, but the dealer said the DVLA often turn things around in less than 7 days.

This would match the experience of a colleague who with fair wind and sail picked up his car 18 days after build. No doubt there is a lot of variation from dealer to dealer as with all things.

Mine took two weeks from docks to dealer ready to pick up.

Mine hit the UK on Nov 20th and I picked it up on the 27th. I must have got lucky.

RE the road tax, all they needed was the cover note from the free Skoda 7 day insurance. I had the car for around 2 weeks before the tax disc came.

My dealer sent me a tax thing to fill in when I ordered the car, meaning I can drive it for the first 2 weeks without a tax disc as the rules have/are changing as all docs need sent away.

Thanks for the replies, I forgot to mention that the car has already been in UK port for a week.

I have emailed the lease company and left it for them to chase the dealer and agree a more realistic timescale, very interested about the tax cover note - that will speed things up!

Just out of interest, which Gloucester dealer did you use, Blade?

I got my tax disc from the DVLA within 5 days. They give you 14 days, if after 8 days you haven't received it ring them to chase it up.

Yes, that's who my lease company placed the order with.

They are getting rid of the tax disc soon...not sure of exact date how ever but was announced before xmas.

still have to pay the tax unfortunately.

I was told by my dealer car built and at port 2 weeks ago since then they've been completely ignoring my emails too.….

Maybe I'm just lucky but mine was built w/c December 2nd and was on my drive on the 20th. Tax disc followed quickly in the post.  The 5-7 day PDI seems excessive to me. Mine took 2 and looked fab.

Just had an update from the Dealer,

"Vehicle has arrived into stock and due just waiting on pre-delivery inspection, we then have to allow up to 14 days for the tax to arrive but I will push through - Regards"

Does anyone know what the official term for the "Tax cover note" is? and does it apply to company cars? I don't get why I have to wait for the TAX if others are having it sent out.

Cheers

Just been informed by my dealer that the alloy wheel was damaged being put on the car transporter and the company didn't bother telling anyone. Bad news is there are no spare anthracite Gemini alloy wheels in the UK, one needs to be shipped from Skoda 2 weeks. Good news is they are providing a hire car in the interim

That would severely pee me off... to be so close and yet so far!

I feel very fortunate then. Factory build day to dealer, 9 days!

In terms of taxing, it is true that the DVLA say that you can drive your car for up to 14 days after taxing without a disc on your windscreen.  However, I'm quite surprised to read that some of you are getting your cars without discs as Skoda have told dealers that they don't want cars leaving the dealership incomplete so to speak, as in the tax disc must be present on the windscreen when the customer drives away.  It does make sense and means that you don't have to worry about chasing it up or forgetting about it after 2 weeks and getting done for not displaying your tax disc as it didn't turn up in the post.  14 days does certainly seem a bit of a severe under promise to over deliver though.  Think the official DVLA lead time is 5 working days.
