Advice on Vibration

Featured Replies

Just wondering whether or not my thinking is sensible...

I have had a vibration throughout the car, coming from the front end, felt mainly in the floor, but the entire car seems to be shaking at times, especially when going uphill in 6th gear under load at 75+ miles per hour. The car just shakes and you are forced to either back off or put your foot down and motor past it. It is slowly growing worse.

Generally, it is felt at higher speeds, when accelerating, but not always, and it has to be under load at the right amount, but is no where near as pronounced as when going uphill in 6th - I am shaking apart. Shift down to 5th, still there, just a little less severe. At idle and stopped no vibration, or at slower speeds around town the car drives fine. Stick cruise at 70 mph and the car seems relatively fine.

Things it is not: bushes - all recently changed. DMF - the car doesn't have one. Mounts - all seem rather secure, but perhaps?

Drive-shafts seem tight, but I am thinking wear on the inner cv joints. Anyone else come across this?

Many thanks, Pete

It's probably your Superpro bushes !

Do you have a poly dog bone bush?

Do you have a poly dog bone bush?

Sure do, the softer of the two. That's been on for about 2 years or so.

The vibration was there before I swapped the my Cupra solid console bushes for superpro ones.

Sounds likr drive shafts too me.

So what would cause the vibration? Out of balance or something?

Joint wearing probably. When its under load its pushing unevenly as it rotates through its movement

That was my thinking - inner cv joint wear, but thought to see what others thought. Will swap them next week and see what happens. Fingers crossed.

Fingers crossed its that. And you get ot sorted :)

Here's an update...changed the driveshafts and no difference. Wheel alignment and no difference. New dampers all around with new strut top mounts, plus a new upper gearbox mount, the vibratechnics one, and mega vibrations at idle, but the shimmy is still there, although much more damped.

I'm hoping the mount will settle because the gearshift at speed has improved dramatically, but the vibration at idle within the car is harsh. But, I was pretty impressed to see a massive reduction in my engine shaking at idle under the bonnet, and the shutter I used to get when I turned off the engine is completely damped.

The shaking is between 75 and 90 mph uphill in sixth...so obviously under load. I can feel it under acceleration at other times, but I have to get the load just right. It is like a shaking, which I can feel in my feet and through the wheel. The whole front end is shaking.

Considering that the mount has damped the shimmy I can't help but think flywheel and engine. One thing I noticed was that my flywheel can be heard with the clutch out and moving at lower speeds (lower rpm). I don't know what sort of failures folks have had on a jabba sport setup, or if there has been anyone with any similar issues?

Just thought to update this...the source of my vibration was a dirty methanol injection nozzle!

How did you resolve this ?

Swapped to a new nozzle (which also had a very slightly lower injection volume)...however, probably could have cleaned the current one and would have been fine. Didn't try this though...should it return, will swap back.
