uneven tyre wear & binding caliper

Featured Replies

afternoon all

i have a few questions for you knowledgable folks in the forum, hopefully you will indulge myramblings.... (i've split these into separate posts for ease)

Car in question is a 08 Octy VRS, with 73k on the clock.

firstly, last year a smoking brake pad alerted me to a grabbing rear passanger wheel.  Garage took the wheel off, cleaned and put it back to together told me to see how i got on.

Fastforward 6 months and i have a horribly worn inside of the tyre.  So questions are....

1. What to do next?  I've booked in for 4 wheel alignment, should this be postponed till the brakes have been properly checked.

2. The car was MOT'd 2 days ago, what should this rule out in terms of worn parts

3. Would a grabbing brake cause very even wear, or is this likely to be suspension geometry as described elsewhere in these forums

4. What would the going rate for a caliper replacement be

5. if needed ... what pads and discs

6. booked in for a supersomething 4 wheel check, are these worth doing?

7. any recomends for a vag specialist mechanic in cheshire
