Red Coolant temperature/coolant level light

Featured Replies

I have recently bought a 2008 Fabia 3 1.4 TDI (80).  When started from absolutely cold the red coolant warning light comes on after about 20 seconds.  (The car has a temperature gauge so this is not the blue low temperature warning light others have posted about).  The coolant level is fine and the coolant is cold.  The light remains on and the car comes to the correct temperature and does not overheat.  If the coolant is even slightly warm when the engine is started the light does not come on.  Any thoughts please.

It's the 2 prongs in the expansion tank need cleaning. Use a screwdriver to scrape them up. It's a common problem. It happened on my Octavia once and I did the above and it never came back.

Thanks very much, I'll have a go tomorrow.

I had a go with an old toothbrush and a fairly thick kids paintbrush (for the bottom of the tank) and so far, so good.  Thanks for the help.

Hello,

I have the same problem, and tried a good scraping and it didnt seem to make too much difference.

Dont suppose anyone knows, if i were to replace it, is just this part ok - http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Skoda_Fabia_1.9_2004/p/car-parts/car-cooling-parts-and-car-heating/cooling/expansion-tank/?205440680&1&64c442d50f7fd1ff7d826e3b5e66d6ef16d2d43d&000125  or would i need to purchase a sensor too?.. (cant seem to find it online...)

Thanks
