Netflix or Lovefilm

Featured Replies

Looking to take out a subscription for downloading films for viewing on an Android tablet (4.3).

Which is best for range of movies/value or am I just better downloading from the Playstore?

I tried Lovefilm and didn't like the user interface, so I chose Netflix.  :)

I have netflix, canceled it once, reopened for breaking bad.

Now very bored with it, once I've finished justified I'll be taking a break again.

Not tried love film yet, I understand the postal side of that gives more current stuff. Just need to be organised, which defeats the purpose of a streaming service IMHO.

I think netflix really works I you have lots of diversity / kids ;)

We have love film. I like the postal service for Blu-Rays and the online stuff as a backup. I think Netflix probably has the better selection.

As far as I know Love Film is/was mainly a DVD rental service which also has some online capability while Netflix is purely an online system.  Not used LoveFilm for quite a while so not sure how much they have available online now, wasn't a great selection a year or so back.

You can get a free trial with Netflix which will give you a good idea of what is available.  When I have used it previously there is some good stuff but after a short period I tended to exhaust the stuff I was interested in.

Not sure if either of them support download, thought they were direct streaming only!

Go for the free trials and see what you like.

We have Netflix and Lovefilm - and for streaming, I've found that Netflix is definitely better. It's smoother and has far fewer lock-ups, which I guess is a bit of a big thing for a streaming movie service.

In terms of content, I think Netflix probably has a better selection, but that's not to say that Lovefilm is bad - they just have different stuff. Netflix certainly seems to be a bit better for TV series, if that's your thing. When you first get it, it's like "wooooaaahhh...more films and TV than I can poke a stick at"! But to be honest, it's amazing the number of times you sit down to watch something, only to give up 15 minutes later and go do something else as you can't find anything you want to watch!

I have both, can watch a film on on one telly/ps3 in the conservatory

and Mrs G can watch her usual vampire related guff on the other

telly/ps3 in the lounge. We use them a lot.

Have used both. Find them to be pretty equal to be honest

You can't download the films for viewing, you can only Stream. so you will need a constant internet connection.

I use

NOWTV

NETFLIX

LOVEFILM

I have to say Netflix streams better quality and can even output 5.1 on certain films and also Lovefilm can do that on certain films but not as good as netflix.

But i do prefer the content on NOWTV but you don't get tv drama you have to pay extra.

If you want a good all rounder then i guess Netflix great value for money,
If you want just the latest films then i guess NOWTV

Lovefilm is good with the DVD rental service as they send you 2 x BLURAY/DVD and you have unlitmied streaming for 9.99.

For streaming stuff you will be better off with Netflix, and then use the USA service for a far better selection.

I tried them both on their 30 day trials - Netflix is a much superior streaming service - the quality is excellent even on our slowish broadband. Lovefilm looked at times like a poor VHS recording.  We still have Netflix and cancelled Lovefilm.

For streaming stuff you will be better off with Netflix, and then use the USA service for a far better selection.

How can you do that then??

I believe you can get Canada, Mexico, Netherlands USA versions of Netflix as well. I think it involves subscribing to a DNS service like "Unblock-us" Changing you DNS addresses on your router and configuring your location on the DNS services website. Far to much bother for me.

There is a long thread on the  Digitalspy forums in the online entertainment section.

Tanks for all the useful replies. Really want to download feather than stream so I can watch on trains and planes so that looks like ruling out both.

One thing that mihgt matter is that Lovefilm isnt available on any mobile device other than the Kindle and the older Blackberry Playbook.

It uses the out of date Microsoft Silverlight plugin.

Netflix seems to be available on many more devices.
