Front window demist

Featured Replies

My front window demist doesn't seem to work that great on my vrs octy. U can hear the blower working but it doesn't seem to blow air out of the vent on the dash. It does a wee but but not a lot. Any ideas?

Have you changed the the pollen filter?

try a vag com scan....

if the flap is not faulty try to reset all flaps and it should get back to normal

No havnt changed the pollen filter. The rest of the blowers are fine it's just the front window demist

Try completely shutting all the dash mounted vents. The user manual also tells you to do this if you want maximum blow on the screen. My dash vents stay shut all winter for this reason. Makes a huge difference.

Other than that, just do what others have said. Change the pollen filter and do a code scan to see if you have any flaps playing up.

If it's a mega bad condensation problem then check for damp carpets and other indications of a leak maybe.

Glad someone asked this question as it took about 10 minutes of driving plus warming the car up first before my screen was fully clear! I'll try the dash vents closed tomorrow. Need to get a cable for scanning!!

Will give all these ago. Cheers for the info

This has also answered one of my questions, cheers guys.

When i first looked at Octy's about 10 years ago i asked owners if they had any issues.... poor screen demist was near the top of the (short) list!

Pollen filter made no difference to mine.

Just my 2p.

What's a VAG com scan and how do you do it?

Sorry to ask the idiot's question! lol

You don't need VAG-COM for diagnosis if you have standard Climate Control.

Assuming you do then press and hold the extreme left and right hand buttons on the Climate Control panel before switching on the ignition. When you release the buttons it will exercise all the motors and flaps. A fault free unit gives 444 and 00 on the display.

Any fault is reported as a Hexadecimal code. Using a scientific calculator on-line you can convert this to a normal decimal equivalent.

Then take a look at the Ross-Tech website and search for this decimal code.

For example 4FA  on the display translates to 1274. Ross-tech uses 5 digit codes so search on the site for 01274. For this particular code it returns Air FLow Flap Positioning Motor (V71) Faulty.

Try this simple test in case your screen air flap is faulty.

They just have poor demist on the screen, i put washing up liquid on my screen, rubbed in till its clear its helped alot.

I open my sunroof to the tilt position and sometimes (if it's not too cold) crack a front window open slightly.

It seems to help slightly, the fans run slightly faster due to them not pushing against the pressure inside the car.

Might have a go at washing up liquid as even with my front vents closed it's still crap. Will run the fault check on climate to see if anything comes up. Just to clarify the only vent for windscreen is the one on top of the dash?
