Spare key

Featured Replies

After getting the vRS Mk3 Estate and setting it up just the way I like it, I lost my main key this morning. Not a problem, it was in the house - I was just running late for work so grabbed the spare out of the safe.

Zapped the car and told jnr to get his ass into the car so I could drop him off.  But the key only opened the drivers door.  I had to zap it a couple of times to get it to open all the doors.

I know SWMBO's Monte Carlo does this by default, but I had programmed the car to open all the doors.

Anyone know why this could be?

I thought this feature was an optional extra to set seating positions, mirrors etc when SWMBO's using it.

I have located my key now as it happens.  I'd be more upset to loose the vRS key strap.

You have to program both keys, as it allows different users to set the car up to their preference.

Had the same problem with my second key - the wife uses it to open the car for the kids.

She kept moaning it was not opening the car correctly, then when I used it I realised each key has to be coded via the Maxidot.

As above coding affects each key rather than a global change

Yep, each key has it's own settings.

His and hers!

Now, if only we could reduce the power output for when she drives it..

I know swearing is banned but Ford do such a system on the Fiesta ST (and possibly others)!

Yeah the MyKey system, developed for over protective American parents.

Higher Marques usually have a "valet" key or mode that severely reduces speed and power.

Funnily enough I was looking at buying my better half a fiesta st when I qualify, if we don't buy a house first!
