Hi and a couple of questions

Featured Replies

Hi to All

I have today test driven a Fabia vRS and have decided that this car will be suitable for work, me being a driving instructor. First impressions are that the car is well put together and an absolute hoot to drive, but civilised enough for my learners. Are there any other driving instructors out there using the vRS?

If so three questions:

How well do the cars cope with high mileage? Am I unrealistic to expect 150K miles from one if religeously serviced and not abused? For the money (I can get a discounted Fiesta for 2/3 the price) it will need to last me 4 or more years.

Secondly, what sort of fuel consumption do you get when teaching?

Thirdly, any recommendations for insurers?

Best regards

Chris

PS Anyone know who does a good deal?

Secondly, what sort of fuel consumption do you get when teaching?

The only question i can answer is the fuel economy one. Around town early to mid 40's if pushed a bit, 50-55 on A-roads, it is just about possible to get around 60mpg on a long motorway journey!

Welcome to our humble site :)

We have had at least one driving instructor in a Fabia vRS on Briskoda.

Hi there Chris,

I'm, a driving instructor, (DSA ADI ORDIT, http://www.2pass.co.uk/vrs.htm ) and use the fabia vRS to teach in. I switched after my last three cars were citroens, and I got fed up with the unreliability! As you say, this car IS a hoot to drive, my learners love it. It's lost the stigma of being a "skoda" they just say "oh yes, the one that beat the mini cooper round the track?!" It gets it first 10,000 mile service today, and I've had no faults so far, my only comment to the garage is to make the bonnet a bit easier to shut!

It's only just 'run in' in my opinion at this mileage, drives better now than it ever has. the learners find it really easy to use, the clutch is very progerssive, and not sharp. all manovers can be done without needing gas, even uphill! (310 NM of torque)

I also intend to keep this car for at least three years, and am looking at 150,000 miles. I don't see a problem with this, this engine has proven that mileage many times, as many people here will say. the build quality is also up to it.

fuel consuption on a general lesson (town, manouvering, a bit of bypass ect) works out at about 47 mpg for me, an out of town drive will give 50+ easy, motorways up to 60 mpg.

insurance: well my current insurers (DIA direct, underwritten by NIG) group this car as group 11! and the premium is rediculous! I've been scouting around (as my insurance is due in August) and the cheapest I've got so far is Barry Granger at

Hi Sharky

Thanks for the swift reply! I am trying a couple of places for insurance today. I dont know quite how it will work out. I have a car that I use for myself (A modified V6 Omega) and cannot afford to take the NCD from that one. Will let you know if I find a good deal.

I know what you mean about the bonnet thing, I tried it in the showroom and found the only way to close it was to drop it from around a foot up. The other stuff that was attractive from the pupils point of view is that the glass line is low at the sides and rear and the C pillar is relatively narrow helping visibility / observation.

Best regards

Chris

Hi Sarah

I have so far been quoted one price below list including the duals so OK with that. I am checking my finances tomorrow and if OK (I originally budgeted for another Fieasta on which I get a significant discount), will be on the prowl for a very good deal.

That sounds like you would have yourself a bargain.

Go for the Fabia , just look how fiendly we are.
