Have any of you ever had a Waxybox?

Featured Replies

I've been thinking about doing this for ages but I have just joined up and subscribed to waxybox - www.waxybox.co.uk

Short explanation for those of you who haven't come across this before. Waxybox is in essence a Wine Club for detailers, you join up and every month have the option to purchase a "Waxybox" a surprise selection of 5x50ml sample bottle a development wax sample and applicators microfibers and other accessories.

For me I am pretty well covered in terms of having at least two of everything I need (and more) of detailing products, but I love to try out new kit. Net result being poverty if I keep going at the rate I have been "trialling" products in full bottle size. Hence joining Waxybox - a yummy monthly hit of new detailing toys to play with.

Something like

Just wondering if any of you guys have tried this and how you found the product selection that they put in the boxes, seems to be fairly positive on DW but I value the opinion of fellow Briskodians and suspect I'll get a more balanced appraisal.

Have to say I'd like to try something like that, but know I'd rarely get time to use it.

Excuse my ignorance, but how far does a 50ml bottle of anything actually go?

Is it enough to do a car? A bonnet?

Obviously it depends on the product but:

a 15ml hard wax sample pot should cover a medium sized car no trouble if applied right.

Waxybox claim that depending on the product you get up to 8 cars worth from a QD or Shampoo sample.  Check here for details http://www.waxybox.co.uk/faqs

A 50ml spray sealant sample should give a years supply.

Example being I am currently using Autobrite Hellshine Abyss on my car, a spray sealant which comes in a 250ml full size bottle, manufacturer believes this is good for 25 single coat applications so 10 ml per car.  I have found that it spreads like olive oil and works best when used economically.

Based on that 5x10ml applications and high end sealants can give as much as 6 months durability.  It's those kind of maths that explain why OCDetailers end up with insane collections of products, you just couldn't get through it all.

So although it sounds like naff all, I think there is a wide spread tendancy to use too much of ever product when detailing, kind of a more is better train of thought.

You should find that a box will give an awful lot of use.

Tried it for 2 months but tbh, I found it to be a bit of a waste of money and time.

The products are very much hit and miss with what you actually get and their effectiveness.

My advise? Find a product that you like and that works and stick with it! I have a select few that I like and use and that seem to provide a good level of ease of application and longevity.

Just my 2 pennith........

Not tried it but agree with this - I used to be a regular on DW but have now since found a small selection of products which work for me and give me the results I want. I purchase from one supplier and have no need for DW anymore. I can buy a hell of a lot of my desired product for £210 per year.

That's cool Rob (vrsrs), it won't be for everyone and I was asking for what people thought.

It looks to me like they only put in products from quality brands but yes what you get each month is a mystery and no guarantee that you will get something you desperately need or want each month, for me this is part of the fun.

I can afford to waste £15.00 a month as it probably will stop me spending more on new products in full size.

Also as per my first post I have my products that work for each detailing job, and a back up, and even a third string reserve  so no worries there.

The idea is to fulfil my need to try new stuff in the constant search for the ultimate kit, with a little fun thrown in.

Coop - I also follow that too, and if you're happy you are happy.

There's no obligation to go in for a box everymonth so I haven't signed up to a 12 month contract or anything and am going to evaluate as I go.

I know plenty of people who used DW to gain the knowledge, found some good products and then walked away, job done.

I also know plenty of people that would count this as a hobby, enjoy it and never quite mastered the walking away part :)

It's all part of the spice and variety of life/car ownership

I've had a few boxes from Waxybox, overall they are good, especially if you want to try out new products that you are unsure about. They are good for trying out quite expensive products that you might not normally buy. You do get a couple that you might only use once or twice but I've also found products that I'd definitely buy in full size after trying them in Waxybox. And the little pots of wax go further than you think when applied properly.

It's also a gift at the end of every month :)

Considering what most of us spend on cars £15 per month for a little present is naff all.

(IMO)

Brilliant thanks for that, this is more or less where my mind was at, sample a cornucopia of high end detailing kit without the outlay for full products until you know they are to your liking, cheers for that and some nice photos to boot.

Look after the pennies etc Richard.

But in truth I am well and truly covered by this statement :D

Besides if you read above I am trying to justify this as a way of saving money.

This month's box looking like a bright one.

I know what you mean! And I'm not getting this box, have got enough bottles of stuff to get through!

Interesting to see what's in the box though.

its a fantastic idea...

will stop me buying the full items to test out then i either have to sell at a huge loss or give away
