Door lights help

Featured Replies

I'm tapping into the two wires connected to the lights on the inside of the front doors on my Fabia to install some puddle lights.

However I'm unsure which wire is positive and which is negative. Can anyone help and clarify which is which?

Thanks in advance.

Worked it out. Will lock the thread.

It turned out that the red/black wire was the positive and the brown/green was the negative.

Tested this with a multi meter.

Thought I'd post a couple of photos of the finished thing :)

I bought a strip of 15 LEDs, cut 3 off so it is a strip of 12 stuck to the underside of the door. I thought 15 might be too many.

This is ny attemp today. Tha ks for the wiring confirmation btw.

Is this as simple as buying LED lights - Fitting them to the door panel and connecting the pos and neg ends up and its all done?

Yup I've done my doors and boot and recently my rear foot well. See my other thread

I'm going to put a small trip of 3 LEDs in the centre bottom bit :) and then some in the footwells and possibly the boot.

Yeah same here, was going to do them today but had a root canal on Friday and i've been in agony ever since. Couldn't face spending more than 20 mins doing anything today haha

My local halfords have started stocking green leds so I will start lighting mine up soon. Looking well !

Haha fair enough dude! Couldn't imagine doing anything like that after a root canal. Always next weekend :)

I have done on my 3 series (not the same I know!). As a placement position it's much better IMO as it works before you've opened the door so you don't stand in puddles when getting into the car. Hardest part was running wires into the door, but as you've got that already then it should be pretty simple once the mirror's off the car.

Looking at the pictures - sand the LEDs down for a much nicer light output. It took my puddle lights to being a horrid mess to a nice 'pool'.

You can see the difference here. Notice how bright the beam is in the first photo, and how it's spread out (and barely noticeable in daylight) in the second?

Edit - quoted the wrong post - sorry! Meant to be Nathan's!

Mine are strip LED's so can't sand them down like you can with normal LED's.

They do look good when sanded down, but mine are a strip of LEDs as well, not individual ones.

What LEDS would you recommend? Ideally from eBay :)

That looks great :) I just got super bright led door lights which act as puddle lights :)
