SCOUT AND AN EARLY SPRING

Hi, car just over 3 years old and the offside front spring has just snapped.  Anyone else had this problem and any help from Skoda forthcoming?  I know its a symptom of the speed hump menace but I haven't hit any pot holes recently and I'm surprised its failed on a relatively young vehicle.

Probably just unlucky, mine is nearly 6 and on 109k on the original suspension

I've seen it happen quite a bit on VAG group cars.

It's the quality of the springs.

Down here VW/Skoda would have to re[lace it under the statutory warranty on products that overrides any vendors warranty.  It covers "fitness for purpose" and "what a reasonable person would expect a product to last".  When I buy a new car, I'm not thinking "and in 3 years time I'll be able to fit Eibachs because the springs will have snapped in two by then".  I think a reasonable person would expect springs to last 10 years before they have sagged excessively -  breakage not at all.

Thanks for the replies. brad1.8T.  I agree entirely and hopefully Skoda will too when I get the bill.

Carefully drove it in this morning so should get it back early next week.  I have read much about the way springs are manufactured in europe v say for Japanese vehicles and the problems this causes.  Coupled with the state of UK roads etc.

The springs on my 2008 / 45,000 mile Scout are still intact - touch wood.

 

However I have noticed that the front suspension (at least on our diesel) has a very strong rebound (not sure this is the correct terminology).

 

When the front wheels drop off a kerb or into a pothole the bang the suspension makes is very noticeable.

 

We have a couple of severe speedhumps and a deeply rutted level crossing near our house and the Scout is the only car that I have driven that requires you to really slow down to ensure the suspension doesn't bang!

Mine does that too off speed bumps etc.
