Warranties

Featured Replies

I took out a Warranty Direct Extra Care policy 3 years ago. Partly due to the recommendation on Honest John and at £400 a year it was relatively expensive however the peace of mind against the background of Teves ABS issue, Turbo and Air Con made it worth it. The car has been superb for over 6 years and 60K miles but the Teves issue struck 3 months ago then followed closely by an ABS sensor problem. To Skoda UKs great credit the Teves fault was repaired virtually FOC. I was almost disappointed that I hadn't had the opportunity to test Warranty Direct. When the ABS sensor problems occurred in December Warranty Direct paid a third of the cost, arguing that the sensor ring inside the wheel hub was corroded and therefore not covered. This and the fact that they argued so long meant I ended up co-ordinating between them and the dealer to reach a solution and messed up my time off. Yesterday was renewal time and when I explained to the sales advisor that I no longer trusted the firm to cover the turbo or air con due to, carbonisation, corrosion and various other get out clauses in the unread exclusions paragraph of the policy, he wasn't surprised when i cancelled the cover, he actually almost agreed with me.  Insurance is essentially a gamble, however when you see a warning light on the dashboard you expect to have it rectified without a quibble. I have watched similar discussions on this forum and now think that if you have good knowledge of a car, mine was bought at 6000 miles, and have kept it serviced, then perhaps it's not so essential to get cover and save the premium if you are unlucky.
