New discs and pads :) hardest part getting old discs off

Featured Replies

After 3 and a half years the force I had to use even after wd40 to remove my front discs was scary.

Front discs and pads quick to do and with euro parts 30% off pagid it was cheap.

How hard are the rear discs and pads? Never done those before.

I have a piston compressor tool.

The backs will probably be as bad, once you've managed to get the pads off.

By compressor do you mean a wind back tool?

Sorry yes wind back compressor sounded better.

On my old car I had to hammer the pads out of the carriers before I could get to the discs.

I had my rear pads/discs done at an indy.

He's normally a very nice quietly spoken chap but when I asked himhow he got on he said the rear carrier bolts were an "absolute ******* pig" to get off.

From that I've guessed it was quite troublesome.

I changed mine when the car was around 5 years old & i had to give mine a bit of a wack to get the old discs off the hubs.

For the rears you may need an M14 Spline socket if u can't hit them off with a rubber mallet. To be honest mine were an absolute pig to get free, I had to take my carriers off to free the disc as the rust around the edge of the hub wouldn't loosen up! Also I couldn't loosen the M14 spline bolt by hand so had to ask a local Indy to get a power bar onto them, after that they flew on.....

My car was 8yrs old at the time and still on it's original discs so maybe that's why the spline bolts were so hard to loosen.
