Going to change the head gasket on my 1.4mpi 8 valve engine.  Haynes manual says to torque the head bolts 20nm and a further two 90 degree turns.  Is this correct as I was reading somewhere that this may be too low?  Also if the head needs skimming will that effect anything else?

Thats correct. If you do it, you will realise the second 90deg will be very tight.
Head skimming will affect the valve clearances. You will need to reset that as well. Click here.
