Having owned an Octavia 4X4, I think that snow_muncher's advice is sound.

Its real easy

1) Take the bumpers off your vrs, along with seats and interior

2) Buy an Octavia 4x4

3) Put the vrs bits on the 4x4

Job done ;)

Plus the bigger brakes. ;)

As a previous owner of a 1.8T 4x4 Elegance hatch I have to agree - why try to reinvent the wheel when it already exists. :)

The rear of the floor plan is very different in the 4x4 compared to the vrs. Thats why it will be a lot cheaper and easier to do as snow muncher suggests.

People do 4x4 conversions on cars that haven't got a 4x4 version !!

Skoda do and can be picked up for under a1k

So it doesn't make any sense as you will never get it perfect

Use 4x4 shell and running gear, transfer your engine and interior over to the 4x4 shell

You'd need to buy an Octavia 4x4 to start with anyway, An A3/Golf 4mo/TT, etc will not be suitable

You'd have to cut the entire rear floorplan tub out of both cars, from just before the rear seat base

The 4x4 floorplan tub then welded in - bearing in mind you'd have to strengthen the weld areas to compensate for fact you've cut through stress/load bearing areas

Saddle tank mounted

Rear suspension and differentials subframe unit mounted up

Propshaft mounted (you'dspecifically need an OCtavia propshaft - all others would be too short)

At the front end, you need to start by stripping engine, gear, subframe out

You'd then need to strip the vrs's ABS controller unit out, then transfer across the 4x4's ABS unit and loom - also the haldex loom

If you were to use the vrs's engine, you'd need to re-route various bits of pipework to clear the 4x4 transfer box area

That's just a basic outline - probably loads of other smaller jobs needed

Many 100's of hours of work, access to full garage facilities

If you can't do all the work yourself, it'll cost £1000's in labour costs

and at the end of it - It'll still be a dogs-dinner version of the proper 4x4, imho

much more sense to do as I outlined at the start - then spend your time, effort and $ on uprating the Octavia 4x4

There's a vast amount you can tune/uprate on an Octavia 4x4 to get it to its full potential

My 4x4 estate will be for sale soon.

Seriously thinking of stripping mine up and putting everything on a 4x4..

This weather is no good...I've had to turn the boost down...

:)

I thought about picking up a 4X4 Estate, and gutting mine for it. But then I saw sense, as I'm certain I would end up spending a LOT of money on it, and probably still need another car as a runabout. :D

Just get a 4x4, I've got a stage one its

so much fun! And you make hot hatches look stupid off the lights

I agree with snow muncher, buy a 4x4 and you are good to go!!!!

You dont want to mess with bodywork.....

Same as the 180hp engine eg 200+p @ stage 1

This is the only photo I can find, but it was a fantastic machine.  I think it started life as a simple Elegance 4x4 estate.

It was running over 400bhp, had a full R32 interior and an obscene amount of money spent on it.  Unfortunately, the car was stripped as nobody was willing to buy it when it came up for sale.

Maybe someone else can find some other pics of the car & post the specs.  You'll find that most things have been done before on this site and they usually cost a lot of money.  I'm coming round to the idea of just buying a fast car in the first place instead of constantly modifying to make an average car faster.

That's the one!  I so very nearly bought that car, but the fear of a big bill stopped me in the end.

If I remember correctly, the chap who ended up breaking it tried to sell it as a whole but it was worth far more in bits - as is quite often the case with modded cars.
