You need VW 505.01 I couldn't get any of the oils on the "sticky" post but i did get some Castrol TXT which (according to the label) is VW 505.01 suitable. So, it would appear there are some other oils out there.....

Were did you get the Castrol TXT from?

Have you tried the obvious VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda dealers??

Even Ford at a push I'm sure they use the PD engine in the Galaxy.

I got mine from Oilman on here. I think his website is here There was a group buy a while ago. PM him or give him a call if you are struggling to get some.

VAG have their own brand oil called Quantum. Make sure they don't charge for the Castrol stuff!

Claiming that the oil is '505 01 suitable' is not the same as confirming that it meets spec VW 505 01. Does it state that in black and white on the container? If so, I will add it to the FAQs.

It still amazes me how often this comes up. It should be sent to new members buy email when they join Briskoda -

Go to your dealer and get a litre of oil for your car, you're going to need it!!!

I have several litres in the garage - you never know when you might need a drop.

I just bought 5 litres from oilman on here for my service.

Yet another vote for oilman. Top bloke and top quality service, good prices too.

Just had a look at the back of the Castrol TXT 50501 oil bottle, The exact text reads, "Special engine oil forumalted for use in VW Group pump-nozzle diesel engines without extended drain interval"

Furthur down the label it DOES contain a white label with black text on it with several codes one of which id VW 505 01

Think it's alright? and what exactly is an "extended drain interval"?

Soz for all the questions, it's the first time i've owned a brand new car and i'm trying to treat her right!

Mike I cannot remember what car you have. Fabia VRS is on fixed servicing all other Fabias on variable AFAIK.

Extended will probably be variable servicing.

Just to jump on, what oil would everyone say is the best to have, in order to keep a car going for as long as possible? Fully synthetic? And 5w-40?

Just looking at oilmans website and also denis's list, which would get the official Brisky thumbsup, with price being not too important? (As long as price isnt daft)

Think I've only ever seen 505.01 oil in 5w 40 and I'd go with the fully synthetic myself. I got 5 litres of the Quantam PD oil from my local VW garage for about

It's a Fabia VRS. I only use the Castrol TXT for top ups though (of which i've only done a small one so far). Do you think this oil is ok?

I really can't comment. Mine is from a dealer.

Think it's alright? and what exactly is an "extended drain interval"?[/quote']Extended drain interval = LongLife Service Interval......also known as variable service regime. There are no set service intervals for this regime and, depending on how the car is driven and the conditions of use, the service interval can be anywhere between 9,000 miles up to a maximum of 30,000 miles (depending on engine type) or 24 months. However the Fabia vRS is on fixed service intervals.

That TXT oil is entirely suitable for the PD-engined Fabia since it is a 505.01 oil. Could you please confirm the exact name of the oil, ie is it Castrol TXT 505.01 or what?

The proper name for the oil is "Castrol TXT 505 01".

Just one more thing (getting like Columbo!) i'm a bit of a thick fool when it comes to car care;my Furby Vrs is fixed service, so am i ok to top up with this particular oil? I hope the answers yes because i have already done it once!

As long as the Oil is 505.01 I would imagine you'll be ok.

The manual has a good source of info regarding the oil spec.

Ive just bought some Motul oil for my VRS from here at 20.95 per gallon. Its
