Fluids & Wipers

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

I need to perform a fluid change on my 1.2 Petrol Fabia II and I was wondering if anyone know how much and what type of engine oil it takes and how much coolant it takes?

Also, the rear wiper is only working intermittently. For the most part it doesn't work but if stalk is left in the ON position then they occasionally come on randomly. So because they work occasionally I know it's not the fuse, so does anyone know where I can find the Relay for the rear wiper?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Jase

I think all these you are asking for are written down in owner's manual. It would be easy for me to tell you that oil should 5w-30 and coolant should be G12++ or G13 (production year depending), but there is an issue with engine's oil capacity. To be more specific the early 1.2Tsi CBZB engines needs 3.6lt of oil, the latter ones 3.9lt. Plus you don't tell us which 1.2 engine you own.

1.2 HTP 6v 44Kw (BBM)

1.2 HTP 12v 51Kw (BZG)

1.2 Tsi 64Kw (CBZA)

1.2 Tsi 77Kw (CBZB)

As about the rear wiper. When left at ON porition it does work intermittently. There is no way on continuous wiping. Plus the rear wiper wipes when it is off but the front wipers are set to any ON position and you are engaging the reverse gear.

Hi Stratosg

I am not sure what type the engine is... how can I tell?

As for the rear wiper.... I understand that even when switched on it will only wipe intermittently.... but when you switch it on, it doesn't wipe or if you engage the window wash, it does not wipe....but then sometimes it does!!

I took the cover off the motor today and checked for power and that was fine, I then tapped the motor quite gently with a spanner and it kicked into life! I turned the ignition off and put the cover back on, closed the boot, put the ignition on again and guess what? It didn't work!! I am guessing that the motor may be on it's way out!!

On the motor try cleaning any cable contacts/plugs

Well engine type is usually stated in car's license. There is also a sticker at the back of the front page of owner's manual that has all the info of the car, such as engine type, displacement, gearbox type and codes that declares the trim level. The same sticker should be under the boot's carpet. Sometimes you can read the engine type at the top of the engine's cover. Finally you can write yours car's VIN at a VIN decoder

As about wiper's motor as you describe it indeed there is a problem. Try what Jon_Woo wrote using some contact cleaner spray. If still doesn't work properly and stop working, try to find a used one from a scrap yard.

Or run your reg through an app such as 'my car check'.

This will tell you the displacement, power output, year etc etc
