Sound Generator rattle finally fixed

Featured Replies

Just as a heads up, my car went in Friday for a few bits doing and they finally resolved the rattle that occurred when the sound generator was active.

I narrowed it down to the sunglasses holder and light unit rattling. I believe they have stuck some sticky backed felt I and around this unit and it has stopped the awful rattle completely.

Hope this helps others.

Glad to hear it's fixed.

Is what they applied inside the sunglasses compartment or did they need to dismantle the cluster and refit?

I think they dismantled it. I cant be sure as didn't get chance to speak to the technician.

Glad its fixed Rob. Nice that they didn't have to do too much surgery either. :)

Probably a stupid question as I'm sure you would have mentioned it already if they hadn't but did they do a good job? Does it still look/feel factory new?

Does what look factory?

I think it's obvious that he's talking about the addition of various sticky bits and pieces.

Yes, the "bits" they worked on.

There nowhere to be seen, they removed the roof lining i believe and they are placed behind there

So it looks like it's never been touched - great!

That's my main concern about taking mine in. I have a bad history with dealers "fixing" rattles. They usual cause more rattles than they fix.

Yes i know what you mean it was a concern of mine. Will happily take a photo to show how its been left.

I have my sound generator rattling , noticeably in sport mode and would prefer not to lose the car in the dealership for a while. Rob,( or anyone who knows) do you know where they applied the felt? My rattle appears to be around the centre of the dash towards the screen. I'm guessing it might be the unit itself. I really don't mind it at all in normal mode, but sport is not really useable for me.

There are a number of different reasons for the rattle. Mine was also centre dashboard and was found to be a loose external temperature sensor. It was replaced with a new sensor and problem solved. All the work was done outside of the cabin

I will have a bit of a look when we eventually get a half decent day! I will try and take pics as well, in case it benefits anyone else.

I think it's hilarious that something vibrates to create a "Sporty" sound.

Engineers spend quite some time preventing rattles and harmonics from filtering into the cabin then they go stick one of these on. :giggle:

Glad you fixed your rattle, but it shouldn't have rattled in the first place!

Right.

On way home tonight in sport at low revs say 1500-2500 I get the "rattle" that sounds like two plastic surfaces are nudging each other. Certainly sounded like middle centre of dash.

From the experience of those on here - which do they think it is? After next week I won't have a backup car, as it's on ebay! So would like to know the solution for either "rattle" and would trust my own take on it first!

Where is the external temperature sensor mounted? I'm guessing its not the one mounted to the right of the lower front grill looking from the front?
