Rear facing dashcam

Featured Replies

Hi Peeps. I've got a blackvue 380 at the mo, but was wondering how many also have a rear cam and do you think it was worth fitting.

If there's anyone with one fitted to a mk2 octy hatch what did you fix it to, maybe the plastic cover that runs across the width of the car in the roof or did you fix it to the hatch screen etc. Which ever you chose how did you run the power cable and where did you pick a switched live up from please. Ta in advance.

P.S. put in the general section in case others are thinking of putting one in another model.

The best place (IMO) is to stick it to the glass, as high up as you can.

Then pop the interior boot trim off and run the wires to the rear wiper that has an ignition live and earth.

That way all the wiring is contained in the boot/tailgate and nothing needs to go through the little rubber boots the wires and washer fluid pipe uses to the main body... so less chance for issues.

Thanks Richard, that seems to be the best option to me. As the Blackvue guru is there much difference in the quality between the 380 and 400/500? If my plan for approval comes off I'll stick with them as they are nice and neat and good build quality. I run the 380 at the 2nd highest setting, but see the other 2 are full 1080p HD rather than 1280×720 so is the difference noticable so was thinking about putting the 380 in the back and one of the others up front.

Cheers

I am running mine all the way through the car on a long USB cable under roof trim then out down front right A pillar and into USB plug with other camera on front. I would much rather have it all contained in boot but I am not cutting any wires as I don't need to so I wont start doing it. My car is still under warranty and the rear wiper seems to be a weak point. As much as it shouldn't be a problem I do not want to risk a dealers suggesting I caused it and sending pic to SUK. Shouldn't happen but I am eliminating the possibility until I sell the car or it runs out of warranty at 5 years old.

Cameras in video below are the Mobius ones, much higher bitrate than blackvue 400V2 / 500GW models so won't struggle with trees too much  and only £42 delivered.

You don't need to cut wires in the car if you don't want to FUBAR.

There are other ways to tap into an existing wire.

I appreciate your opinion but I think skoda would find it very difficult to justify a problem with your rear wiper just because you have piggybacked off the wire that provides an ignition live with something that draws a very small current.

Just as much chance of a piggyback fuse in the fuse box causing warranty issues.

OP, a 380 is perfect for the back.

It has a few less options for recording quality, but we run them back and front and IMO they are all you really need.

I have ordered another camera off http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk if you enter the below code a further 10% off is available :) might be of use.
