How to stop dragging wiper blades...

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Given the crappy weather, the wipers have been on a lot more often lately,

but whats really starting to grate is the blades dragging on the glass.

the blades are pretty new, only changed them November, but they are draggin already.

anybody got a suggestion for a treatment to put on the rubbers or the glass to help stiop this?

also.. part number for the washer jet nozzles, as the passenger side one is buggered.

tried a fleabay search, but theres loads of simillar but slightly different ones, that say they fit,

until you read the small print, and the Octy doesnt get listed.

If you've recently applied Rain-X or wax and noticed chatter, remove the product with a normal car polish. Rain-X and other wax products can create a film that causes chatter in the wiper blades.

this may well be it... I rainxed before christmas, but i thought iwas well washed off by now!

I tried rainx, made everything worse! Had to use a tar and glue remover followed by glass polish to sort it out

yeah, i know... hydrophobic rapid water beading my ass....

all it did was cause the beading to form lots of little rivers moving up the windscreen which was quite distracting while  driving,

looked like when the millenium falcon accelerated to Faster than Light Speed...

If you use rain x don't use wipers, just drive faster to clear your screen.

I had this with my lasses car, complained and complained about the wipers dragging. One day she was talking about cleaning her car when she mentioned she waxes her windows!! Problem solved- stripped it off with neat washing up liquid then a glass polish to finish and hey presto- no dragging and she won't be waxing any glass ever again! lol

"Yes officer, I know i was doing 95mph through that village, but I had to as it was misting and i cant use my wiper blades as they drag on the glass"

:angel

It's what everyone who uses it says. It designed to bead up the water so the heavier drops just fall off the screen. A gentle nudge of the accelerator helps it along...Can't stand the stuff personally

Its fine for side windows, but not the screen

even on side windows, i noticed it beads and sits on the glass, esp on a dewy, damp morning...... total PITA.

it was my first time atually using it... not ever again.

the anti fog stuff on the interior works a treat though!

Ive found sometimes just rotating the blade can help

well, i'll be srubbing the windscreen to remove ant all trace of the crap and will rotate the blades too, see if it helps.

also have to figure out where the small bit of water is getting in behind my boot trim liner.

There's whole threads on boot leaks mate, mine was from the hinges so a little silicon around the foam stopped it. Strip the glass with fairy liquid and a plastic scourer (neat fairy liquid), really scrub it. Wash that off then use a decent cream glass cleaner after that. With the wipers you can also do the old vinegar trick to clean them but I actually use the same cream glass cleaner (tiny bit abrasive) to clean mine and takes off all the crap from the blade

oh, i know all the places to look for the water, just a case of making the time to get in there and look for it.

I have a feeling its through the rear washer pump....

I wrapped all the pipe joinings with amalgamating tape to make sure they wouldn't leak in cluding the one on to rear motor mechanism itself- one of my favourite ever inventions that stuff lol
