Skoda Superb Elegance

Featured Replies

Until about 18 months ago I had a 2006 Superb Elegance. Great car(wish i hadnt sold it).

Then one day driving away from home, the oil light came on. Thought nothing of it - must be a sensor failed or pressure switch as oil was OK. Drove it gingerly to my local trustworthy garage. Bad news - oil pump failure.

Didnt want to go to main Skoda dealer so had good relationship with VW as was my last car. They could fix. After several weeks trying to get balance shaft assy( As this was VW garage Skoda could not give delivery date, and as it wasnt in Skoda garage, Skoda wouldnt give any priority, no parts in UK).

Eventually, after speaking to a friend(Oh yes, the 2 litre engine oil pump will fail at about 80k miles, but justreplace the hex drive shaft. I told garage to do this, and got car back. When driving home funny smell and smoke. Phoned garage, and turns out turbo had gone. When asked they said "we road tested car and it was OK". i understand from my knowledgeable friend that if oil pump goes, then turbo, main brgs, and camshaft SHOULD be checked also. Garage did not do this and total bill was around £1800. Waranty company was v good and covered about £1200 of this and garage gave me £200 off as goodwill!!!

Now have C5, good car but 2.2 litre nothing like as economical as Superb.

Think my next car will be either another Superb or Octavia as I believe the oil pump problem now resolved on later cars. Can anyone confirm?
