I'm looking to do this HID conversion next week but don't have access to VCDS? I've heard you need to code it to accept the HID's. To that end, has anyone got access and the know how to do this in essex? Also if I was to revert back to halogens would it need re-coding?

Is the coding just to remove the blown bulb error?

Yes, essentially all you're doing is removing the error. HID has a lower power requirement, which is why the error comes on. CANBus looks for a specific resistance instead of a straight closed/open curcuit. So you can get an error even though the light is working.

 

The same happens if you use the wrong stop/tail buld too. Catches a few people out, especially if they've gone to Halfords as the chart is wrong.
